This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • I would pass if interested in purchasing - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought the Jeep new in 2007. Since then I have had the A/C worked on twice. The air would blow out the floor and thats it. I have had the window regulators replaced NINE times. I have a vehicle I get to take home for work and a only drive the Jeep on my days off. Luckily I am still under warranty since I only have 19K miles on it. They finally replaced all window regulators, tracks and glass with new parts Jeep came out with. That was a couple of weeks ago and they havent broke since. I generally have warranty work done everytime I get the oil changed. This is the first and last Jeep vehicle I will ever purchase.

  • Wow what a car! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

This SUV has been pretty decent. I have not had a problem with this car. I have 41,000 miles on this and had to replace the brakes already. I hate bouncy they are! Fuel is not to bad. If I was to buy a another car it would be a Chevy. Not Dodge

  • Bad Window Blues - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I wanted to buy an American made car for solidarity sake, but Im starting to pay the price. Knock on wood, there hasnt been major drive train problems, but 3 of my 4 power windows have failed. Seems to be a common problem. The power window system has a serious design flaw, causing the window bracket to break and the window to fall down into the door. I’m convinced this is no coincidence, more likely a poorly designed window assembly. At $500 a piece for the dealer to fix, this will be a costly design flaw for me!

  • Might just be a Lemon - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this Jeep barely 8 months after it was originally purchased and I have had something break on it pretty much every 6 months. I have had to replace the spring tensioner on the fan belt, 2 rear window regulators, the linkage and park mechanism on the steering column, pressure valves etc. Its only 4 years old! It has been fun to drive but I am seriously disappointed with all of the repairs that I have had to make. I owned a Japanese car for 10 years and never ever had any trouble like this. All these repairs have cost me at least another year in car payments and I am absolutely disgusted with Chryslers manufacturing and customer service regarding this product.

  • Diesel version good, too many problems - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Every month there has been a recall on some part with the Liberty CRD. The accesory Plugs pop a fuse at the slightest amount of draw. Electronics lighting went haywire after towing a trailer. Great solid body for taking offroad; however needs severe improvement in the electronics and power supplies. Dont recommend if you plan to use accessory plugs with anything bigger than a cellphone. Wiring for towing also seems poorly insulated and subject to shorts.

  • Windows Wont Keep Anyone Out - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought this 06 with 39k miles, in 02/10 and planned to give it to my daughter in the fall when she goes off to college. I put 700 miles on it and WHAM the back window fell inside the door. Research tells me that a lot of people have had the same problem. My old Nissan was 9 years old with 160K miles and the windows never had a problem. Jeep, MAN UP AND RECALL THES VEHICLES. I do not feel that it is secure or safe for my daughter. Anyone could open the widows without a problem. I am going to fix it and unload it on some unsuspecting chump, like me. I know Ill loose 1K to 2K bucks. But its crap, I cant keep it. So much for buy American. 1st (last) American car in over 10 yrs.

  • Dont buy one! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Liberty new and within the first year had to replace the back window motors twice. Now, since Chrysler seems to think customer service is not a priority, both back windows are held up by coat hangers. I like to take long trips and it is the most uncomfortable car. I am sad because I owned a Jeep Wrangler in 96 and loved it! I will NEVER purchase a Chrysler automobile EVER!

  • thumpy/non economic - 2006 Jeep Liberty

A great looking vehicle, reliable, sturdy. Comfort in city driving is very thumpy. Fuel economy with this 03 Liberty is poor city driving-reasonable on the highway for driving. Rear seat is uncomfortable, while the front seats are great for comfort and support. The auto transmission shifts hesitatingly and I am on the second transmission. The first one shifted up and down like a yo yo. I am certain I would not purchase a Liberty again in an auto transmission.

  • Poor Quality - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

This is the first US built car weve purchased in the last 10 years (all others have been Japanese, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi). The Jeep build quality is poor. Both power windows on the drivers side have already failed in less than 9 months (the rear gets virtually no use, so why it failed is pure poor quality). The engine idles rough and the dealer can find nothing wrong with it. We will not buy another Chrysler product again. Putting products like this on the market its no wonder US car makers are losing to imports. I have a 2004 Mitsubishi (3 years old and over 50,000 miles) and its has only had routine maintenance, no build quality problems.

  • I like the Liberty BUT have 2nd thoughts - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited 4X4 in December of 2006 when my 2001 "Lemony Olds" Alero GLS (thats another review for another time) decided to die on me...and this particular Jeep Liberty with an awesome rebate caught my attention! Time for an SUV, huh? Anyway, within a couple of weeks of owning the Liberty, the left rear windows regulator went out and I had to get it replaced. The "new" regulator on the same door went out while on a road trip to Florida in January 2008. The gas mileage is not something to be thrilled about. Im almost wanting to purchase another vehicle, but cant due to poor trade-in value of the Liberty. I like the Liberty, but there are second thoughts.
