This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

The fuel economy is poor in this Jeep; 17 miles to the gallon in the city.

I like most people have had nothing but problems with the windows. I have had to replace all the window regulators and now I have had problems with the sun roof. I have had the torque converter worked on as well as the tranny. The biggest problem now though is the air conditioning only works when it feels like it and no one can tell me what the problem is. And of course I am out of warranty! I only have 47,000 miles on this thing! Oh and to add to all that the gas mileage stinks! I average around 15-16 mpg. Thats only a little better than the husbands 1991 Chevy 4x4!

I have had my Jeep Liberty for 5 years, I have had to have my air conditioner fixed 3 times. The windows have dropped 5 times, there was a recall on some jeeps in 2006, bad luck for mine did not make that cut, I now have 2 windows broken and dont have 700.00 to fix them.Too bad says Jeep, The back seat is covered in stains, because of a the type of material used . I will never buy another car from Jeep, and very sorry I bought the one Im stuck with.

We have a 2006 Liberty and have had nothing but problems with the windows. First the rear driver side window just slid down one day about 6 months into the lease and never came back up again - we had never even lowered the window once since we got the car. Today, about 18 months into the lease, the drivers window did the same thing. I asked the service manager to inspect the other 2 windows so I dont have to come back 2 more times for the same problem and he said no - they have to break first. Jeep knows about the problem and refuses to issue recall - beware!!!

  • Windows Regulators - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased this vehicle for my mother June of 2006. Since having purchased this vehicle my husband has replaced the window regulators on 3 of the 4 windows 3 times already. Recently the driver side window regulator went out, and he went to the dealership to purchase another one and was told that he would not only have to purchase the regulator but a new window due to a new design that Chrysler came up to prevent this from happening. It went from being $75.00 to now $300.00 to replace this part. This is ridiculous, you either buy groceries or fix the window. And the gas mileage isnt great either for a 3.7 Liter small vehicle. Not to mention the noise that it makes when driving on the HWY.

I downsized from a Nissan Pathfinder that was truly a jem but had too many miles on it. The Jeep is really bouncy and I am embarrassed to have my mother drive with me to shop. The front seats feel like you are sitting in a high chair. The gas mileage is absolutely horrible. I am looking to purchase another foreign SUV for more comfort and reliability. It feels like the transmission has to catch up to the acceleration. Not happy after less than 3 months.

  • All my window regulators have failed .. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased the diesel model to get better mileage, am happy with the vehicle with the exception of the window mechanism. Each window regulator has failed at least once and had been replaced while still under warranty. The driver side rear modulator has been replaced twice and now failed for the 3rd time (now no longer under warranty). This is crazy, these regulators are way overdue for a recall, shame on you Jeep! This is my third jeep in in the last 10 years, and probably my last.

  • Windows - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have a a little over 44,000 miles on my 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport and I have had to have the regulators in the windows replaced five times. Three times for back passenger windows and twice for the left drivers side window. The motor crunches and then the window just disappears into the door. I picked up my vehicle from being repaired for the fifth time yesterday and am afraid of letting the windows down for fear they wont go back up. I wouldnt recommend this vehicle to anyone.

  • Total waste of money if you want a Jeep - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my jeep in November of 06 and it had its first recall in January, I have had nothing but problems since i bought this car. The engine has been rebuilt (recall issue). The only positive thing about this car is it is pretty fast on the take off. Gas mileage is not to bad for an "SUV". The room in the back is sorry. Dont suggest this car for any one with a new born baby, or with tall friends.
