This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • Jeep = (Cheap) Liberty - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I purchased this Liberty Using the end of year incentives and Affiliate awards discount, BIG MISTAKE!. I should have dished out some extra $ and purchased a Japanese import. The jeep is seriusly lacking options, It is the most uncomfortable vehiche I have ever owned. It gets only about 15 mpg on avrtage, the best I ever got doing srticly highway was 18 mpg. Tje interior is made from cheap soft plastic that scratches easely with a finger nail, non of the cloth or carpets are protected (Scotchguarded). The paint/clearcoat mares easely just from leaves and bird droppings. The interior is lacking legspace and is poorly designed (lots of wasted space. The exterior pannels hold lots of water

  • Window regulators - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Ive had my jeep since 2006. Ive had to replace 3 window regulators already and now the fourth has gone out. The regulators should have been recalled and fixed. I called to get a price on a new regulator and its gone from 64.00 to 167.00 for the part which is ridiculous! I went through 4-5 recalls the first year I had this vehicle. I did really want to have a jeep now I cant wait to get rid of it. I will NEVER buy another jeep! What was supposedly once a great vehicle to have has become a cheaply made piece of crap. Ive heard from so many people that theyve had the same problems with the windows! Plus now my vehicle is only worth half of what I still owe on it. Horrible resale value!

  • Rear windows and fabric seats. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Jeep in 2006 brand new. I love it, I dont have any complaints, very reliable SUV. I have 47000 miles on mine and I never have any mechanical problems, but the rear windows are a pain when they stop working, the fabric seats stain even with water, and the handle of the passenger side got broke and guess how much the dealer wanted to replace it $525.00, I decided to fix it myself with a real long screw. Inside is like a toy car very low quality but other than that very reliable SUV.

  • I am SHOCKED! - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

After reading all of the horrible problems people have faced, I am SHOCKED! I have owned my Liberty since September 9th of 2006, and 34,700 miles later... have not had ONE problem! Maybe I am lucky, but I have adored this SUV. It is great in mud and snow, and I feel safe in bad weather. I have never had a window fail, though one did fall into the door, but the dealership replaced it with NO COST. I have gotten around 16 mpg (mostly city driving) through its lifetime. Its 3.7L is peppy and can pickup! The only thing that bugs me (Im a clean freak) is the cloth seats are RIDICULOUS to get any kind of stains out (USE HOT SOAP WATER!) It has been a GREAT vehicle, and I recommend it!
