This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • Looks great has a lot of problems. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

The car has issues. The windows always fail. It always has recalls and my key will not come out of the ignition. When my air condition is on it makes a horrible noise. I went to turn the other day and there was a loud bang then it stopped turning (serious safety hazard) now it keeps happening. The transmission is also making weird noises. I wish i would have never got it. My other jeep was great. The car looks nice but it is terrible. if i could afford to make the thousand in repairs i would but now there is no use to for down in this downwards spiral Chrysler calls a car.

I just traded this dog in! Every time I took it in for an oil change something else needed fixed as well. More rattles than a maternity ward. Had the same problems that everyone else seems to have had, window motors, wiper motor, rattle in hatch that they told me was from a piece of welding that fell off...this was the wifes car and she liked it because it was cute. I used to own a 1996 Jeep Wrangler and it was well built, bit this thing. I will never buy another Chrysler product again. Traded it in on a Ford Escape. If this turns out as bad as the Jeep Ill never buy another car from the big three again.

  • Luv it - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I just got my Jeep Liberty and I love it. There are a few drawbacks but nothing enough to have swayed me to another vehicle. The gas mileage is about the only bad thing I can say about my Liberty. It looks great, is fun to drive and it is a Jeep.

Othen than more horsepower and/or torque I dont know how they could make this vehicle any better.

  • Fun to drive but...expensive to own... - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have a blast driving my Jeep. But, the poor gas mileage (average of 15 - 16 city/highway), the window regulator failure (three times), 4 alignments and the three set of tires it has gone through in 73,000 miles, and now Im told the rear end needs to be rebuilt. All of this has made the decision to purchase a different type of vehicle very easy. We are a Jeep family, we own three others and have NEVER had these problems. Our 98 Cherokee with 220,000 miles gets better mileage than I do in mine. I certainly wont buy another Liberty.

  • Hate it. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have had my Jeep Liberty a little over two years and have had it at the shop five times because the motors on the windows are failing. Now the back hatch is rattling and the dealership cannot find anything wrong. I only have about 20,000 miles on the Jeep and the windows get very little use. Whats the deal? I will not buy another Chrysler product. I should have learned my lesson with the Dodge Durango!

  • Climate Problems - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

The Jeep Liberty (and other Chrysler family vehicles that share its components) is extremely prone to problems with the climate system. Multiple (FIVE) attempts to fix a problem common in this model where the air simply stops coming out of the vents (despite functional fan/cooling system) due to a faulty valve have been unsuccessful. Multiple Jeep dealers have failed to correctly identify or repair this problem due to the intermittent nature of occurrence (only occurs at high rates of speed, due to loss of vacuum pressure). Extremely disappointed in this otherwise excellent vehicle and in Jeep service - as this problem makes any use of our Liberty miserable in the Texas heat.

  • Not Jeep Quality - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Thompson Jeep/Chrysler does fantastic work, however it seems Jeep quality continues to become worse and worse. This is the second Jeep Ive purchased. The first was a 2005 Wrangler. I couldnt take all the problems and issues. Now my Liberty is causing me time from work. Every other week it something else going wrong. Its still under warranty and thank goodness I purchased the extended warranty. Page after page I keep reading about more and more Jeep Liberty problems, especially window regulator issues.

  • bad transfer case -- disappointment - 2006 Jeep Liberty
    By -

The comfort of this car far surpasses any other SUV I have driven. But it was a major disappointment to find that I had purchased a vehicle that had a bad transfer case from the git-go. You dont expect to be inconvenienced at 3100 miles. And to put up with the noise, vibration and the stress of wondering what else is going to happen later down the road, because Chryslers service reps seem to think that itÂ’s ok to drive the vehicle until they can get around to replacing the transfer case. My concern is will the transmission fail next? Will the driveline maintain its integrity? I did not expect this from a Jeep. But then again it is a Chrysler product now, isnt it!

I have had this vehicle for three months and am very satisfied. Good power and smooth operating engine and transmission. Excellent heater and a much better radio than I had expected. So far, a very good winter vehicle.
