This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • My Jeep is a SUV, your SUV is not a Jeep - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Aside from a small reprogramming problem related to a switch of tires (which the dealership fixed the same day I got the vehicle), this is one incredible vehicle! Much better than my previous 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited. In less than 1 week of ownership Ive already pulled two cars out of ditches and pushed another one free. Off road it performs like a total champ (dont forget to turn off the ESP!).

I have had this vehicle for 3 years, in that time I have spent over 5,000 dollars just in repairs. The rear windows both have fallen off, that is about 350. each time. I have had the air conditioning, heat, transmission, misc electrical and switches fixed. The fabric that they use for the seats is horrid. It stains instantly, even if you drip water on it you cant get the stain out. The seats are uncomfortable and there is not much backseat room.

  • Love it so far - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Granted that I only got it several days ago, I so far love the jeep. I have not had any issue with the windows...yet but all these reviews scare me haha... I went from a 2 door sunfire and loved it but wanted one of these jeeps since they came out! the gas mileage is what i expected, the 4x4 is a bear in the snow. the four doors is what i missed the most. so far i enjoy the jeep and hope it keeps up.

  • SEATS stain from WATER - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My 2007 Liberty seats look filthy from stains brought on by water! Embarrassing to have passengers to see the seats! JEEP needs to recall these seats and do something about the ridiculous(ness) of the easily stained cloth that repels nothing!!!

  • Window Regulators - 2006 Jeep Liberty

The window regulators are a constant problem. They have been fixed five times in four years and Chrysler refuses to issue a recall even though I have found thousands of complaints about this on other sites.

  • Chrysler worst quality interior parts - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought a Jeep Liberty 2006 brand new, I have replaced the windows regulators about 6 times for the rear windows, spending about $200.00 each time, and still Chrysler do not have a recall for the cheapest windows regulators ever made out of plastic, then the gear shifter light went off and I thought I could fix it replacing a fuse. The dealer told me they didnt have a fix for that so they have to replace the whole shifter. WHAT? I just leave it like that and then the interiors handlers in each door came off when I tried to close the door that after several months of use. It runs great and I havent have any major problems with the engine but Chrysler used the cheapest materials ever.

  • I love my Liberty! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I just got a Liberty not too long ago and i love it. Besides from the fact that in about the 3rd week somebody tried to steal it but luckily it had that engine immobilizer on it; otherwise they would have been successful. It handles great, can go anywhere (Ive taken it places that many people would never take their vehicles and its handled perfectly), lots of power. I love the interior also. All around great truck.

  • the car Ive always wanted - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Well, its finally mine. My 2006 Jeep Liberty. Its not the most comfortable car, nor the most powerful, but it defines me. Its definitely, a "mans car" or, at least mine feels like it. And I love it! Though, my friends are mad because they all have stupid economical imports. But in all seriousness, the Liberty is my top pick. Its the best small SUV out there. The looks, inside and out, are just great, and my girlfriend says it matches my eyes? Hah, "Jeep green" and a lot of my tall friends can fit in perfectly. Who cares about gas when you make everyone who carpools with you pay for it? :) Haha, I love my Jeep, and its worth every penny!

  • I wish I never purchased it! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

The car has a gear/spinning noise between 25 and 35 mph. Dealer tried to fix, replaced rear axles, then returned car with same noise claiming Chrysler district manager told them the noise is normal. Chrysler customer service is refusing to tell me what the source of this noise is. It is very unpleasant during city driving. This is a 2 month old car and my other brand 4 year old SUV is a lot better car.

  • Still in love - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Liberty in Feb 07 with 54 miles on her. Shes now at 162K miles, and Ive only had to replace a rear control arm and the right rear passenger side window motor up until recently. The left rear window just crapped out a couple of months ago, and Im about to replace my water pump and fix a leak in the evap system, but after 6.5 yrs, I cant complain. Shes been the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. Took a hit from a light rail train that clipped my drivers side sideview mirror. It didnt even take the arm off, only the mirror itself popped out! A freaking train! I was in an accident in Dec and begged my insurance not to total her. So yeah, I love my Liberty.
