This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

Absolute pleasure to drive! This truck is nimble and fun to drive. Nicely trimmed with leather, Sirius, iPod controller and Navigation, it is at home on the road or in the mud. The steering wheel radio controls can command the iPod, the Sirius, the radio, (of course!) and the Navigation system. Roomy front and back and the styling is very appealing.

I bought my Jeep liberty brand new in August 2006. While it was under warranty, I had the lower ball joints replaced, the manual shifter replaced a few other dumb things. When the warranty ended, I had to replace a 200.00 dollar idle air control valve, the rear window regulator needs replaced and the a/c is broken. The seats stain badly even with rain water and snow flakes. If I had known this particular car was a lemon, I would not have bought it.

I have owned this jeep liberty for two years. I have always wanted a jeep until now! My windows keep dropping from poorly designed window regulators, the a/c sucks, has a lot of road noise, and the interior is a stain magnet! I am very particular about the inside of my car and rain drops from just getting in the car stain the seats! I dont know what kind of fabric this is but its awful! All of these problems are also very expensive to fix! The outside looks nice but the gray cloth seats are another story!

  • Works for Us - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought this 2006 Jeep Liberty as my wife and I wanted a small SUV with 4WD. We wanted something in which we could go off roading in the local mountains and deserts. Overall its been a very good performer for us for off-road use as well as street use. I am 6-4 and for me its quite comfortable. The mileage is fair, we tend to drive cautiously on street and as a result stand at 16 MPG city, 21 freeway. The one issue we have had is the window issue as oft reported by others. Four times thus far, we are going to have an independent mechanic do whatever it takes to lock them in the up position as we dont use them. Overall we quite like the Liberty, it serves our needs very well.

My 2nd Jeep liberty, this one has problems onset, drive belt snapped within 6 months. Rainwater gets in the passenger side window even with Windows shut. Dealer will not fix window. Just reached 30k miles called dealer for the 30k service, they say its $575+ taxes. My local mechanic charged me half of that. If you can oversee the above problems and the 17 mpg fuel. Otherwise its a fun little suv to drive, but my next car will not be a Jeep liberty, unless Chrysler will make it more fuel efficient.

  • Downsize equals fuel savings and fun. - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My wife and I had both become very used to our 2004 Dodge 3500 4x4 SLT 4 door one ton diesel Dodge Ram PU. It was a tad hard to park, rather cumbersome in its size, but definitely the best truck we ever owned. Its fuel economy was actually very good at around 18 MPG. Trouble is, when diesel became the MOST expensive fuel out there, and we seldom needed its terrific pulling power, it just did not make sense to pay all that money for fuel. The Jeep (we have also had them before) has proved a pure joy. It has plenty of power for our hilly country side, handles with just a touch to the wheel, and is a breeze to park and maneuver. Fuel savings are great, and it is easier to enter and egress.

Ive only had my Jeep for 6 weeks, and I love it. Traded in a 2001 VW Jetta for my Jeep, and I couldnt be happier. I know a lot of people have been bashing this SUV, and I have no idea why. Even my mother, who was reluctant to let me buy it, likes the vehicle. It drives great, very comfortable, and I like the height, it makes seeing the road very easy, and it has a very good crash rating. Also, it has a great sound system.

I actually love our jeep liberty diesel, except for one stupid design flaw--the power windows that constantly fail. Chrysler should be ashamed of themselves given that it is clear this problem has been present for years. The problem is they havent fixed the problem, even with replacement parts--I had all four regulators replaced, and now (after warranty) another has failed.

  • Jeepers Creepers!! Windows stink!! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

The window regulators on the Liberty must have come from a Cracker Jack box! There is NO reason we (as owners) should be replacing these regulators every 6-8 months! Jeep KNOWS there is a problem with the quality of the materials used in the regulators & they need to step up to the plate & make a QUALITY regulator! I think this is a pretty sad ploy to have your vehicle back in to replace these EXPENSIVE regulators so often!

  • 2006 Jeep Liberty Windows - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I have had the SAME problems with my windows sliding down into my doors. Ive had the problem fixed, and it still keeps happening. Right now, I have duct tape holding them up because I refuse to keep paying to have the problem fixed. All of us need to make complaints to the NHSTA - I think thats the only way Chrysler will do something about this, and recall the window regulators. Also, is anyone having A/C problems with their Liberty? Mine stopped blowing cold air and Im praying this isnt the compressor. I cant afford another fix on this car.
