This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • All time high - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I really enjoy driving the Jeep Liberty. I wanted one years ago and finaly was able to afford one.I recently purchased my Jeep 2006 in June 2009. I just love it! I have already taken it on the road and can`t believe how smooth the drive actually is.Since the models style doesn`t change much, people think it is a newer model.I get nothing but compliments on the Liberty`s looks. If I ever trade in this model.... 2009 Liberty ranks very high on my list.

I traded in my little Mazda for the Jeep Liberty Limited and am loving it! I was worried about handling and parking a bigger SUV, but it maneuvers just as easily as a small car. Great styling, a very attractive, no-nonsense Jeep. I have the leather interior with the sunroof, and its beautiful. Still looks like new and feels solid. Im so happy with it and cant wait to take it up to the snow.

  • thumpy/non economic - 2006 Jeep Liberty

A great looking vehicle, reliable, sturdy. Comfort in city driving is very thumpy. Fuel economy with this 03 Liberty is poor city driving-reasonable on the highway for driving. Rear seat is uncomfortable, while the front seats are great for comfort and support. The auto transmission shifts hesitatingly and I am on the second transmission. The first one shifted up and down like a yo yo. I am certain I would not purchase a Liberty again in an auto transmission.

My Jeep Liberty is the coolest car I have ever owned. It is fun to drive, and looks good. I haven’t done much offloading YET, but plan to some. It only has 3200 miles so I want to break it in slow.

  • Dont waste your money - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Ride quality is really bouncy, which I expected from owning Jeeps my whole life. Interior is cheap. Had in shop under warranty 6 times, 4 times for the windows falling down. Dealer said was a problem in all 2006 Libertys. They wouldnt replace the regulators or the windows until they fell, which was usually when it was raining. Now have rattle in the back end at 12,000 miles. Gas mileage is really bad. Seats in my 65th Anv addition stain really easy and dont come clean. I loved the Cherokees even though the electronics suck, but at least it was sound and took abuse. I got a Patriot for loaner and dash came loose. Jeep lost me as customer.

  • Poor Quality - 2006 Jeep Liberty

This is the first US built car weve purchased in the last 10 years (all others have been Japanese, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi). The Jeep build quality is poor. Both power windows on the drivers side have already failed in less than 9 months (the rear gets virtually no use, so why it failed is pure poor quality). The engine idles rough and the dealer can find nothing wrong with it. We will not buy another Chrysler product again. Putting products like this on the market its no wonder US car makers are losing to imports. I have a 2004 Mitsubishi (3 years old and over 50,000 miles) and its has only had routine maintenance, no build quality problems.

  • I like the Liberty BUT have 2nd thoughts - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited 4X4 in December of 2006 when my 2001 "Lemony Olds" Alero GLS (thats another review for another time) decided to die on me...and this particular Jeep Liberty with an awesome rebate caught my attention! Time for an SUV, huh? Anyway, within a couple of weeks of owning the Liberty, the left rear windows regulator went out and I had to get it replaced. The "new" regulator on the same door went out while on a road trip to Florida in January 2008. The gas mileage is not something to be thrilled about. Im almost wanting to purchase another vehicle, but cant due to poor trade-in value of the Liberty. I like the Liberty, but there are second thoughts.

I love my Jeep Liberty. It is better than expected off road. It turns sharper than any car I have ever owned. Pulls as good or better than the full size Chevrolet I replaced. Big complaint is fuel economy. You would expect better out of such a little Jeep, but that is the price you pay for having the strength to pull like a half ton.

  • too many problems/bad gas mileage - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought this Jeep used. Ive had it for 2 yrs. Its fun to drive but gets terrible gas mileage...15 city/20 hwy if youre lucky! Ive had to replace 2 window regulators so far. It is in the shop now for an electrical problem where it keeps blowing fuses. The bill so far is $800 plus a towing charge! Before the windows and electrical issues, my only complaint was the bad gas mileage. I agree with the one person who said we should start a class action suit against Chrysler but would it do any good since they are going out of business? I owned a 1996 Grand Cherokee before this and loved it...no problems. I sure miss it!

  • 2006 Jeep Liberty : TOTAL LEMON - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased the car new 4 years ago, theres less than 60k miles. I have replaced 4 window regulators and motors, and now 3 more broke. Thats an average of 1 every 6 months. The electrical system constantly shorts out and of course nothing is under warranty. The dealership wont stand behind their product, nor will the manufacturer. I will never buy another vehicle made by this manufacturer!
