This Year's Model Updates:

The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
Cons:
  • V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • Total waste of money if you want a Jeep - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought my jeep in November of 06 and it had its first recall in January, I have had nothing but problems since i bought this car. The engine has been rebuilt (recall issue). The only positive thing about this car is it is pretty fast on the take off. Gas mileage is not to bad for an "SUV". The room in the back is sorry. Dont suggest this car for any one with a new born baby, or with tall friends.

Excellent purchase - nice styling, fun to drive. Liked it when first came out. Gas mileage could be better. Dependability is yet to be tested, only have 1000 miles on it.

  • Horrible ! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

My Liberty has 70k miles on it. I had to replace my entire shifter, A/C compressor, torque converter, 3 window regulators, and now my jeep was stuck in park and is in the early stages of transmission failure. VERY upsetting ! This was my first and last American car

  • Windows Wont Keep Anyone Out - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I bought this 06 with 39k miles, in 02/10 and planned to give it to my daughter in the fall when she goes off to college. I put 700 miles on it and WHAM the back window fell inside the door. Research tells me that a lot of people have had the same problem. My old Nissan was 9 years old with 160K miles and the windows never had a problem. Jeep, MAN UP AND RECALL THES VEHICLES. I do not feel that it is secure or safe for my daughter. Anyone could open the widows without a problem. I am going to fix it and unload it on some unsuspecting chump, like me. I know Ill loose 1K to 2K bucks. But its crap, I cant keep it. So much for buy American. 1st (last) American car in over 10 yrs.

  • Dont buy one! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I purchased my Liberty new and within the first year had to replace the back window motors twice. Now, since Chrysler seems to think customer service is not a priority, both back windows are held up by coat hangers. I like to take long trips and it is the most uncomfortable car. I am sad because I owned a Jeep Wrangler in 96 and loved it! I will NEVER purchase a Chrysler automobile EVER!

I bought this Jeep a year and a half ago. It had 13000 miles and has been nothing but trouble. The window mounts break and the windows fall down into the doors(all four of them did this!) The light fuses burn out constantly and I cant keep up with replacing them. The anti-slip warning comes on on dry ground and the four- wheel drive kicks on when theres nothing to slip on! It has been one problem after another with this vehicle. After 28,000 miles it has been in the shop with so many problems, including expensive new shocks that I will not ever recommend this car to anyone. Im getting rid of it as soon as I can and never looking back at this very expensive and poorly made Jeep.

  • Fun SUV - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Fun SUV that my daughter and I take shopping regularly. We can park almost anywhere. This is my second one. I had a 2004 gas and traded in for 2006 diesel. Not a bad trade. Better mileage and that is what I wanted.

  • Love it! - 2006 Jeep Liberty

I was a bit nervous going from a 2003 Jetta wagon that practically drove itself, to an SUV, but absolutely love my new Liberty. After a month of driving Im getting 20 MPG and love the visibility of being higher up. The Liberty handles very well, has a very small turning radius and excellent power. Ride is a bit bumpier than the Jetta, but I would expect that from an SUV. Seats are comfortable, it corners well, seems quite stable, and handling is very responsive. Overall, Im extremely happy with my Liberty.

Its a Jeep to the core but with the Detroit Diesel 4 cylinder turbodiesel built for Mercedes (I havent quite wrapped my brain around that), its got that European feel and not the bad quality part. It is extremely smooth and torquey (new word). I find myself after 2 Wranglers in the past 7 years really amazed at the smoothness. I have been guilty of daydreaming on the interstate and speeding without knowing it. Wife bought me a radar detector, she was so happy to have another four door car in the family, good thing. I am a Jeep guy all the way (who else out there thought the Jeep transformer was the coolest of the group?) but I am really amazed at the power, gas mileage, and smoothness.
