Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Liberty gets stability control as standard equipment on all models for 2006. The four-cylinder gas engine has been dropped, however, due to a lack of consumer interest.
- Extremely capable off-road, economical diesel engine option, creative interior design.
- V6 is rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

Windows Problem - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Diane - December 5 - 3:16 amIve owned this Liberty less than 3 years. Since then 3 windows have stopped working: left rear window 2xs; left front window 1x. The left front is starting to go out again. When the vehicle was under warranty, Chrysler fixed the first 2 broken windows. Im a high mileage driver: 25,000 miles/year. The vehicle is out of warranty DUE TO MILES and Chrysler will not cover fixing the third window. I would understand if the window had something to do with miles and it wore out. Its obviously a defective part & Chrysler wont stand behind their parts. Be prepared to pay appx. $450 to get the window fixed out of warranty. On a good note, the engine is great at 64,000 miles. No problems there.

Most Unreliable Vehicle Ever Owned - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By George - September 14 - 8:10 amThis piece of junk has made me return to my original policy of buying only Japanese motor vehicles ! This past weekend, I suffered my 3rd and 4th window regulator failures within a few hours of each other. Really wish that I had done internet research before making a decision to buy this thing. My two broken windows are now held in the up position with duct tape, as I can not afford the repair cost. Numerous other costly repair problems also.

Beware of 2006 Liberty - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By MJ - February 18 - 1:56 pmVery nice SUV for the size and price range. However, there have been several recalls and it is hard to schedule the time to get them all fixed. Also, had to replace all four tires and front and rear brakes and rotors at 32,000 which is ridiculous in my opinion. Keep looking unless you are ready to handle the maintenance and have a second car to tide you over during its down time. At this point, I find the car hard to trust.

Window regulators and water stained seat - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By april - June 13 - 9:40 pmThis is my third jeep. I bought a 2006 liberty because they didnt make the Cherokee sport (the boxy one) any more and I had 2 of those. I dont like this car and no more jeeps for me. The window regulators have been fixed 4 times, the seats are all water stained and professionally cleaning them didnt help and did I mention the blind spots? Chrysler is in the toilet and they dont want to recall the regulators or clean the seats for no charge. Chrysler needs loyal jeep owners like me and this is how they treat us?

Bad Designs - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By sandy - May 18 - 12:50 amIve had my 2006 Liberty 6 months; gas mileage is terrible, cannot turn wheels fully when 4 wheel drive is engaged, no storage pockets, all doors are locked all the time when you exit the car, rides rough.

Window regulators and water stains - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Skip Smith - May 16 - 8:06 amThe windows have been a chronic problem since I purchased the Liberty. The first regulator failed within a few months. Since we have replaced the passenger side front 3 times and all others at least once. The last fix being an untinted window, however Jeep has developed a new fastening system for the regulator that should be more reliable. I wish they would recall and replace the others. All replacements have been covered by extended warranty, however another window failed this weekend, Im waiting to hear their solution. Regarding stains on the cloth seats. Since the first week the seats have been stained (rain stained the seat when I opened the rear door to get the groceries).

Buyer Beware - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Lamont Johnson - September 8 - 4:06 amHave the 2006 CRD model w/tow package. Pros: Small size, good acceleration and towing capability. Fuel mileage in town is acceptable. Cons: High maintenance vehicle. Numerous recalls and limited engine part availability causing more delays w/service. Have had to replace EGR valve ($230.00 dealer part) twice (once was under warranty). Local dealer (San Angelo, TX) and manufacturer support and service is substandard. Overall, could be a good "project" vehicle but be prepared to invest time and money to get it to its full potential. Highly advise researching the Jeep forums to learn of other "issues" before buying.

Seems Good - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Mike from Mass. - February 6 - 4:10 pmI bought my Liberty 4 months ago and I put about 8000 miles on it so far. I have not had any trouble with the Jeep. The seats are horrible at getting stained, even water will leave noticible stains. Its not a luxury ride, somewhat rough seats while driving. I havent had any trouble with the windows (knock on wood). The only maintenence I have done is oil changes.

Could Have Been a Good Vehicle - 2006 Jeep Liberty
By Bud Trevor - August 15 - 6:46 amI own the Renegade model with the six speed manual transmission. I purchased this model to tow behind my motorhome. At 35,000 miles I started having problems with the ABS, ESP and related display light. I would be driving down the freeway and these lights would display and force the brake system to respond as if I were on a slippery road condition. I was not in that situation. I live in Arizona where most days are dry and hot. Naturally I took in to the dealership where it was purchased and explained what had happened. The first occurrence was in 2007. Its now 2009. During these two years the dealership has made fourteen attempts to correct this problem. The lights still come on.
