This Year's Model Updates:

Although the exterior styling may look familiar, Jaguar's historic sales leader, the XJ, has been completely redesigned for 2004.

Pros:
  • Supple ride quality, powerful V8 engines, roomier interior.
Cons:
  • Fussy interior controls, clumsy transmission shifter, CD changer is still in the trunk.

  • Finally, A Real Luxury Car! - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

This is simply the best car I have ever owned thus far. I was to the point of debating if I would ever buy a new luxury car again. This car has the best ride, tightness, feel, music system, gadgets and workmanship of quality I have ever experienced. I was thinking about a Bentley and after test driving both cars, the 2004 Jaguar Vanden Plas won in all categories hands down accept in looks. The Bentley won on that. I am making up excuses to run errands so I can get in the car and drive. I traded a 1999 Vanden Plas and it was terrible from the day I bought it new. WELCOME BACK TO LUXURY JAGUAR!

Its tough to beat buying a luxury car that sold for $65,000 for less than $30,000 with only 27,000 miles on it. Ive owned 12 cars in my driving life and this is by far the nicest. Its quick and super comfortable. The ride is on the softer side however for every day driving and some fun on the weekends you cant beat it. The reliability has been great so far. Compared to the 745 from 2004 there are some definite differences in size and ride however they cost at least $10,000 more for a comparable car. Not worth it in my mind. All cars are worthless in the end.

  • Best car ever - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

I bought a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 in 2009. After one year of pleasure driving, I am as excited about this car after 10,000 miles as the first day I took ownership. The ride, the quality, the looks, and the performance are unmatchable in this price range. I could not afford a new Jag, and I was hesitant, but couldnt help myself, and my decision to buy this 5-year old was one of the best decisions ever. This car has worked flawlessly in the city (San Francisco) and on long drives. I have the car regularly maintained by a Jag dealer and couldnt be happier. As they say, this car sold for nearly $70,000 new. Theres a reason it cost that much. Take care of it, it will take care of you.

The performance of this car is incredible. It feels like a Porsche on steroids! It rides very smoothly and handles like a dream, withouth being harsh or jumpy. I dont like the ignition key, I keep blowing the horn when putting it away. The interior is finally the right size and I like the fact that they did not go overboard with the electronic gadgets.

The swift executive. Poise and handling- just as one would expect from an all aluminium rivited body and over 220lb lighter than the X308 4.0L SC.

  • 2004 vanden pals: phenomenal - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

This is my third xj. The 2004 is exquisite in every detail, highly recommend the multi media package. Had a 2003 bmw 745, this car is just as fun to drive but the nav system and controls are very user friendly, unlike the i control in the bmw. they are pricey, but what a great ride!

  • XJ8 is hard to beat - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Great looks, performance, style, and reliability at a price that is very attractive compared to comparable cars. Base model is very well equiped. Add a few options and the XJ8 competes with anything on the road and nothing looks better.

The ride is very rough,I feel every bump in steering wheel and seat. The road noise is very loud, it appears to come from the wheels and floor,on some bumps the suspension system feels like it is bottoming out. This is my third jaguar and I believe it is the worst one. The front seats are very uncomfortable especially when getting out of the car due to the high edge of the seat.If I had purchased this car instead of leasing I would be trading the car.

  • 2004 Jaguar 2004 Vanden Plas - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Best built car that I have driven in over 60 years. It is comfortable, has excellent performance, and is quiet. It lacks rear seating sufficient leg room, and lacks the elegant interior and exterior appearance of previous Vanden Plas models. Rear seating tray tables were omitted from this years Vanden Plas. My wife and I each have one. The rear seats are occupied rarely, and so we are very happy with ours.
