This Year's Model Updates:

Although the exterior styling may look familiar, Jaguar's historic sales leader, the XJ, has been completely redesigned for 2004.

Pros:
  • Supple ride quality, powerful V8 engines, roomier interior.
Cons:
  • Fussy interior controls, clumsy transmission shifter, CD changer is still in the trunk.

  • One Year Later - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Ive owned the XJ8 over a year now, and am still in awe of this machine. My only problem was a noisy accessory belt that would chirp when the engine was cold. Jag fixed it with the one year service. Jag has built a high quality car with personality and every trip seems too short. The power from the V-8 is more than sufficient, with excellent fuel economy for a large luxury car. You will find it easy to drive the car very fast, with the CATS suspension changing its setting to keep you on an even keel and comfortable. At very high speeds (I wont say how high), the car will catch a bit of a cross wind. You will feel like royalty in this car, nothing can match it for the money.

  • The Ultimate Sport Sedan - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Having driven and owned just about every make, the New XJ is simply the finest sedan on the road. It is fast, comfortable and luxurious transportation for four. The highway mileage is an unbelievable 30mpg cruising at 80mph. It is a big improvement over my previous S-Type, which I loved. Must be driven to be appreciated!

  • Gorgeous Perfection - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Have owned our Radiance Red/Ivory Leather Vandan Plas for 5.5 years now. It is still perfect in every way. It has never made a visit to the dealer for anything except routine maintenance. It gets 28-30 mpg on the highway.(Averaged 28.6 mpg on trip from New England to Florida a few years back and that average included local driving! Only weighs 3800 lbs due to Aluminum structure and ours was the 1st year of release and is short wheel based just as we like it. This has been our 2nd XJ (the only real Jag saloon) and both have been flawless. No one does luxury like the Brits!

  • Owned since new - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

Ok, Ive owned my Jag since 2004 bought it new in Texas and drove it straight to Arizona. Ive had only a few issues with the big cat in the 8 years Ive had her. Electric issues with the A/C, and the cruise control. Thats all! Once fixed Ive had no other issues with them. My Jag has 58,375miles and is an awesome family car. My kids love the cool factor, my wife loves the way it drives and I love the safety features that it offers. Im not a Jag man but I do love owning it. I also own a 2001 Ferrari 360, 2009 GMC Sierra and a BMW M3. I take care of my rides so they can take care of me.

  • Great Vehicle - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series

I purchased this in 2009 with 37,000 miles. It now has 138,000 miles and runs and feels just like I remember it performing when I purchased it. I have had to invest a minimum amount of money in the maintenance and repair to keep it running great

  • A Most Beautiful Automobile - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series
    By -

Even though I just purchased an almost 6 year old automobile, this car is absolutely beautiful. The interior is warm, elegant, and exceptionally comfortable. I searched for over 6 months for a BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Infinity or Jaguar and found this most excellent of motorcoaches. I feel good about my purchase and the car runs like a dream. The impressive acceleration is something that my Infinity does not share with the XJ8. Although I love my Infinity. This really is a work of art.

  • Drives Nicely But Unreliable and Shoddy - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series
    By -

My 2004 XJR is a lovely car to drive, but it has the most atrocious reliability I have ever experienced. The car has numerous malfunctions and flaws and Jaguar customer service is unconcerned and callous. This car has been in the shop for every problem imagineable. This has been a horrible experience with respect to service and reliability

  • POWER SURGE - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series
    By -

Explosive acceleration caught me by surprise; I had traded in a 1998 S420 Mercedes and therefor was not used to the Jaguar 390 horsepower quickness. The ride on the low profile 19 inch tires is firm and smooth. Im especially fond of the internal DVD Navigation system which covers all the USA and Canada. The Cruise Control allows you to select a "following" spacing behind any vehicle in front and if you have selected a higher speed than the vehicle in front, it will slow your speed to maintain the spacing you have selected.

  • WHY I BOUGHT A 2003 RATHER THEN A 2004 - 2004 Jaguar XJ-Series
    By -

IVE BOUGHT NEW JAGUARS SINCE 1985. THE 2004 MODEL IS THE BIGGEST LET DOWN I HAVE SEEN SINCE THE EARLY 90S WHEN THEY REMOVED THE TRADITIONAL HOOD STYLING , ONLY TO LOSE SALES AND REPLCE IT LATER. THERE MUST BE SOME YOUNG STYLIST FROM FORD , THAT RUINED THE VENERABLE JAGUAR LOOK . THEY FORDIZED THE 2004 XJ. THE GAS CAP IS NOW LIKE THE CROWN VIC, THE HOOD OPENS LIKE A TAURUS, AND THE ONCE SLEEK LINES ,NOW RESEMBLE THE TOWNCAR. BUY A RMAINING 2003 ASAP BEFORE THEY ARE GONE. ONE MIDWEST LONG TIME DEALER/ OWNER REFUSED TO DISCOUNT OFF LIST ON THE 03. HE SAID " PEOPLE COME IN AND TAKE ONE LOOK ATR THE 04 AND SAY ILL TAKE AN 03.

I love this and it is wonderful. Love the new extra room and the craftmanship of the interior. Just enough gadgets. look at the BMW but it was too complicated. Jaguar did an excellent job on this car.
