For 2000, the 2WD can be had with a "Trailhead" off-road style suspension package complete with larger tires and wheels, giving it the tough look of its 4WD cousin. All 2000 Ford Ranger models have new wheel designs, and the XLT 4WD Off-Road Group receives a stainless-steel front-suspension skid plate.

Pros:
  • Four-door entry, five-speed automatic and optional flexible fuel/electric powertrains, thoughtful interior.

This is a great truck. I wish the 3.0L had the power of some other 3.0Ls have, 158hp is low. Mileage is a steady 19 - 21 Average with Automatic. Great sound system, CD with Radio. Tranmission does shift poorly under a light load, OK under a heavy load. Thin gauge step bumper, much thinner than my 92 was.

Been a Ford owner my whole life and didnt expect the truck to be awesoem, but it has been good to me thus far. Had it for over a year now and only had one major repair at 56k. The trans went on me and I had it replaced, but I must admit that it was foul play and my own fault. I get between 16-18mpg city with the 4.0 and 5 speed auto with the 4wd 4dr offroad pkg. My hwy mileage has been as high as 23mpg but its normally around 21mpg. Its an all out good truck, great offroad and in the snow w/ 4wd.

I only owned this truck for a few short months. But right away the truck proved itself to myself and my wife. I was hit broadside by a Honda which resulted in a rollover. I sustained only a broken arm because it hit the curb. The passenger cabin fared a lot better than I would have expected in this type of accident. Had my young son been in the truck with me, I am certain he would have had almost no injuries. Certainly a tribute to Ford engineers. I will definitely buy another.

This truck does everything I need it to do. I have hauled other trucks (lol) and boats, camping gear, never has a problem. The bed is a little smaller than my last truck, but fits almost everything. I like the pep, and drive it pretty hard. The color is great, and I like being so high above the other cars. I have had trouble with the tires and oil pressure sensor though.

  • Thinigs to keep in mind. - 2000 Ford Ranger

Rides rough, but it`s a truck. Most problems covered by extended warranty. Transmission wouldn`t shift properly, anti-knock box had to be replaced and gear shift lever was to move into gears and turn signal was replaced. All this before 40,000 miles. No power windows or locks, SPORT model has 3.0 liter engine, with air conditioning on between 200 and 250 miles on a tank of gas.

I purchased the vehicle about a year and a half ago and have had nothing but problems with it. I have had ABS brake issues, fuel sensor problems, transmission problems, oil pressure sensing problems, rust problems, and more stuff that would take too long to mention. The reliability of this auto is terrible and its plague with numerous technical service bullitens and recalls. You would think that a vehicle whos design has remained unchanged for the last 10 years would have all of the bugs worked out of it. If you are looking for a good truck, dont look to Ford.

  • Good truck for the $$$ - 2000 Ford Ranger

Bought this truck new in 2000. Put on an aftermarket cruise control.(works great). Have the 3.0 liter V-6 with automatic transmission. Outfitted with chrome wheels and a tonneau cover, I actually get some very favorable comments on its appearance. I tow a small ski boat and it seems up to the job. All and all Im pleased with this truck.

  • FUN HANDY LITTLE TRUCK - 2000 Ford Ranger

BOUGHT MY TRUCK NEW IN 2000. LAST FOUR DOOR IN ARIZONA AND I WAS NOT TO PLEASED WITH THE COLOR THEN. RED. PAINT JOB IS GREAT AS ARE ALL EXTERIOR FITS. MOTOR COULD USE SOME MORE JUICE, BUT JUST FINE FOR DRIVING UP TO PRESCOTT OR PAYSON AND FLAGSTAFF. TOWING IS A LITTLE SLOW GOING UP STEEP GRADES. SO IT TAKES 5 MINUTES LONGER TO GET WHERE YOUR GOING. NOT ONE PROBLEM YET. IT IS MAINTAINED EVERY THREE MONTHS. THATS REALLY ALL I CAN SAY NEGATIVELY ABOUT THE TRUCK. POWER AND MILEAGE. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE 4.0 LITER, IF THERE WAS ONE IN FLEET SALES.

I communte about 25000 miles a year. On weekends this vehicle is used for hunting and towing quads & a popup trailor. As a commuter I get about 17mpg at 70 mph. I was expecting better. I had a 1999 F-150 4.6lt that got the same or better mpg. I have had some problems with the clutch while towing. This passed weekend it slipped on a mild incline with my quads in tow.
