For 2000, the 2WD can be had with a "Trailhead" off-road style suspension package complete with larger tires and wheels, giving it the tough look of its 4WD cousin. All 2000 Ford Ranger models have new wheel designs, and the XLT 4WD Off-Road Group receives a stainless-steel front-suspension skid plate.

Pros:
  • Four-door entry, five-speed automatic and optional flexible fuel/electric powertrains, thoughtful interior.

  • Ford, some mods and keep going. - 2000 Ford Ranger

I brought it on 2000 no major repairs, just regular maintenance and every 60k miles timing belt service and plugs. They are not fuel savers but extremely good machines. Imagine 6 years running on nitrous once a week without breaking anything.

Bought is two years ago and so far so good! I get about 26 MPG (mostly highway miles on the 2.5L engine). I also use often for home improvement. I built a deck with it and have carried some heavy loads for my landscaping and the truck is holding up great!

  • Its a good small truck. - 2000 Ford Ranger

My Ranger is an awesome truck, except for the gas mileage (its a truck, what do you expect). I have the 4 door (2dr with two rear hinged drs), its also a 5-speed manual and has the 4L V6 engine (heard that the 4L was the better of the two engines), 4x4 off road pkg and tears through the snow. I bought it at 46500 miles and put 20500 miles on it so far, and also halled a 630 lb load of scrap steel with now problems what so ever in the bed. With the truck being 8 years old now, the only prblems are the power locks are going out and the cd and cassette player is also going out. Thats great for an 8 year old truck with 67000 miles. Have no regets here!

Not a bad little truck, extended cab has come into handy with putting hunting and fishing stuff right behind the driver seat. Stepside gives a trendy look but doesnt do much good with the Tanoe cover. Got the 3.0V6 with the 5speed automatic and it has little trouble hauling half a ton and towing 3/4 of a ton which is pretty exceptional for a small truck. Only problem I have had was the master fuse blowing and the alternator not charging the battery and the truck dying while driving through town. (Not fun at all.) Overall 8/10.

This is my 2nd Ranger. I have 150000 miles and going strong. The only repairs I have done is emissons, clutch, and brakes. I pull a 2000 pound trailer over the pass 10 times a year. I run this truck hard and it just keeps taking it. This is built Ford tough.

  • First truck and lovin it! - 2000 Ford Ranger

This is my first pickup and Ive enjoyed it. I have a 2000 that I picked up from the inlaws for little to nothing. It only had 30,000 miles and was hardly driven for a couple of years. So I got what I considered a super deal, and a great truck like brand new. Ive had nothing but just a serpintine belt go bad and replaced. Super reliable!

I bought it used with 30k miles on it. I have 81k now with no problems. I did all the standard maintenance. I hate to sell it but I need I need more seats with a growing family. Was rated a best buy by Edmunds when I bought it and they were right

I have never had any major issue with this pick-up and it has met or exceeded my needs all the time. Drove it from east Texas to Colorado and back and never had an issue (except me driving in the snow!). Would have preferred a V6 for more horsepower, but for my basic uses and the gas prices lately I am happy with my 4 cylinder engine. Road noise isnt the best but with a good CD playing, the sound system can drown it out pretty well. I will always prefer to drive around in my Ranger than any other vehicle (including full-size trucks and any car) just for comfort. Easy to drive because it isnt too big, but it is able to do light-duty hauling and other work.

Highlights: Reliability and looks. Disappointments: Lack of power. Center consol breaks if you lean on it. Steering wheel pattern disappears with wear. Believe mileage suffers from 4w drive, but dont check that much.

  • But forgien! - 2000 Ford Ranger

I inherited it from an elderly relative who bought it brand new. When I got it it had only 27K miles on it. Its noisy, it looks and feel cheap both inside and out. The fuel milege is terrible. If I drive it 65 I can squeeze 17mpg out of it. The electric door locks quit at 30K miles and the transmission gave up at 33K miles. Now they want $3K to put in a replacement. when I asked if the new transmission would last longer than the old one, the dealer just shrugged. I cant beleive what a piece of crap this truck is. Ford should be ashamed!
