For 2000, the 2WD can be had with a "Trailhead" off-road style suspension package complete with larger tires and wheels, giving it the tough look of its 4WD cousin. All 2000 Ford Ranger models have new wheel designs, and the XLT 4WD Off-Road Group receives a stainless-steel front-suspension skid plate.

Pros:
  • Four-door entry, five-speed automatic and optional flexible fuel/electric powertrains, thoughtful interior.

  • I like my Truck. - 2000 Ford Ranger

I bought my 2000 Ford Ranger brand new. I currently have 139,000 miles on it. I have always changed my oil before I hit the 3000 mile mark. I have not any major problems. I tuned it it myself at 100,000 miles. I have had the cooling system flushed 2 times and the transmission flush 2 times as well. This is just maintenance items that I personally like to take care of. My front brakes lasted well over 100,000 miles and the rear drum brakes I changed at 105,000 miles. It is a great truck. I wash my engine every 2 months at the car wash (I cover the electric parts and so forth of course). My paint still looks nice, shiny and clean. Next time I will get the 4x4 for winter driving.

I have had fun driving this truck. My only complaint is the gallon/miles for gas. I love the hinged doors, gives you plenty of room. The 2 things I do not like are the rattling around the glove box area, and it is a little sluggish with only a 3.0 V6 in it.

  • good to very good - 2000 Ford Ranger

Ive had very good traction in 4wd with this truck off road on log trails and in mud and snow but it lacked a little in 2wd. Also it does not lack for power as the 4.0 v6 is plenty for what Ive needed.

  • After 150,000 miles - Still runs like new - 2000 Ford Ranger
    By -

Bought this little truck brand mew, and after 150,000 miles it still runs like new. Everything original, even the clutch, and I pull a 2300 lb boat every summer, and thats with the small 2.5l 4 cylinder. Small, but extremly reliable. Grade~ A++++.

  • most reliable truck ever - 2000 Ford Ranger

This truck just does not fail to impress. It is the most reliable truck I have ever owned. It has never been in a shop. Regular maintenance I do myself, change oil every 4000 miles, add oil treatment and fuel treatment at every oil change. This truck made me a true believer in Fords, since I owned Chevy and Dodge previously.

  • Garbage - 2000 Ford Ranger

My first Ford Ranger I got 247,000 miles out of it with out a problem. The only expense was a transmission oil leak. When it was time for a new one I bought another Ranger. The worst mistake of my life! The truck had a valve problem from day one. The dealer said they did not see it? The transmission went at 73,000 miles (band 2). The engine died at 82,000 miles. Yes, I know how to take car of a vehicle. I taught automotives for 10 years and have been a shop/technology teacher for 19 years. Stay away from this truck!

  • Just bought - 2000 Ford Ranger

I had a 1998 Model.Cab seems to have more room.Small area behind seats is good for small items.Jumper cables etc.The truck i bought has a tool box so that helps.Someone put an earlier model bed so it was big for a small truck.Im sure there may be times where a swb will have negatives.

My truck handles good for a truck, more like a car. I like the styling of the body without pinstriping or door trim. Gas milage is decent for a truck. The truck is generally fun to drive. I have had no major problems mechanically or otherwise to date.
