Model Overview:

Crossovers with carlike ride and handling characteristics are perennially popular, and a good example of the breed is the smart-looking Ford Edge. It's a midsize crossover with seating for five. Thanks to its roomy interior, long list of amenities and available all-wheel drive, it's typically a good match for small- and medium-size families seeking a do-it-all utility vehicle.

In road tests, our editors have praised the Edge's quiet ride and advanced features like the MyFord Touch electronics interface, though as with most modern, in-car technology, there's a learning curve. Additionally, Ford offers a range of different engines in the Edge to appeal to crossover buyers seeking performance, fuel economy or a balance of both. Although the Ford Edge might not appeal to bigger families in need of high passenger capacity, it's a solid contender in most other respects.

I think Ford hit the jack pot with this one. The engine is a little noisey when starting off or increasing speed on the highway, this should be improved.

  • Buyer Beware - 2008 Ford Edge

Well where do I start, I bought the 08 edge because of the deep discounts and thought what a great deal. I did not know that the radio would not work, the tire would blow out, and then the transmission would go out all in less than a week. I know that it is under warranty but, how would you feel about a new vehicle with this many problems in a short period of time? I lost faith in Ford.

I was skeptical at first. My husband actually picked out this vehicle. I thought it looked a little strange, but was willing to give it a try. I tried out 3 different types of vehicles and I was sold on the Edge. My teenagers love it and my 19 year old daughter bought one for her self. We now have 2 in the driveway. Every day someone says "What is that?" Sticker prices were a bit higher than expected, but we got an OK deal during year-end close-out specials. I was disappointed to find out that those "bling-bling" wheels were nothing more than plastic wheel covers.

Our SEL Ford Edge awd has been fixed 4 times and I smell burning oil again. They replaced seals and whole unit and it still leaks!!! Ford needs to let us Edge owners know how and when they can solve this problem.

  • A Positive Surprise - 2009 Ford Edge

I just purchased a new Edge for my wife and we are both very satisfied with our choice. The car has great styling, feels very solid and drives and handles surprising well. You cant beat the comfort and roominess, especially in the back seat. Despite the complaints of some critics, I find the interior quality to be quite good and the materials seem very durable. The Edge equals or exceeds most of the foreign made equivalents that we tried and at a much better price after dealer and factory discounts. Have you driven a Ford lately?

  • I love this car - 2007 Ford Edge

I have owned this vehicle for two weeks and, so far, I love it. I had a Volvo XC70 and I prefer the Edge over the Volvo. The overall feel of quality is remarkable. This vehicle is smoother, quieter, and faster than the Volvo and has more room inside. The motor revs freely and pulls hard from a stop, with the help of the close ratio 6-speed automatic.

  • Love My Ford Edge - 2009 Ford Edge

I went from a Lincoln Mark-LT to the Ford Edge and so far I am very happy with my choice. People have commented that it looks like a Lexus and I think it rides like one too. I really like SYNC and all of its associated features. It is roomy on the inside and is easy to maneuver. The turning radius is great. I also like the automatic liftgate. I have not had it on the highway yet but am averaging 18 MPG in the city. I expect to get around 25 on the highway. It has a lot of zip to it. I think Ford finally has a crossover SUV that can compete with Honda and Toyota brands.

After months of car shopping and test driving the competition I handed my leased Escape back and drove home new Front Wheel Drive Edge Limited. Black with charcoal interior, vista roof, sync and chrome 18" wheels. Gotta say right now that the front wheel drive gets the mpg up there on the highway using cruise control. I read the book cover to cover and went out to set all my electronics and preferences. Filled it up, got on the parkway, pressed the reset button for the MPG function and took a 2 hour drive. Set the cruise control to 63mph and kicked back to some music. I got it up to 26 miles per gallon by the time I got back. Rpm,s were steady at 1600 for 63 mph so theres the reason.

  • FABULOUS CAR - 2008 Ford Edge

The body style was the first thing that caught my eye before I bought a Ford Edge. The overall shape is very pleasing. The height was also a factor for me because I have trouble getting in and out of vehicles that are too low. . The interior suits my needs perfectly. I find everything is close at hand and easy to read. The seats are totally comfortable, theres plenty of head and foot room. Storage and cargo space is great too.The music system (6 CD changer, AM/FM radio and MP3 option are very adequate and easy to use. I have yet to look for an option and find that its missing. The drive-ability is fabulous. Very smooth and easy to park and maneuver. The AWD was a life saver this winter too!

  • Hard Plastic Interior Hard to Love - 2007 Ford Edge
    By -

I bought an SEL+ in Creme Brulee, loaded with all the options including the panorama roof and navigation system. I traded in a 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 for the Edge. Compared to the Explorer I like the ride, lower step in height, better mileage, and roomy back seat. On the downside the interior of the Edge is a sea of hard plastic and poorly styled interior elements compare the front interior door panel of the Edge to a Saturn Outlook and you will see what I mean. The interior is way to cheap and cold feeling for a $35,000 car. The navigation system is good, but not great.
