Model Overview:

Crossovers with carlike ride and handling characteristics are perennially popular, and a good example of the breed is the smart-looking Ford Edge. It's a midsize crossover with seating for five. Thanks to its roomy interior, long list of amenities and available all-wheel drive, it's typically a good match for small- and medium-size families seeking a do-it-all utility vehicle.

In road tests, our editors have praised the Edge's quiet ride and advanced features like the MyFord Touch electronics interface, though as with most modern, in-car technology, there's a learning curve. Additionally, Ford offers a range of different engines in the Edge to appeal to crossover buyers seeking performance, fuel economy or a balance of both. Although the Ford Edge might not appeal to bigger families in need of high passenger capacity, it's a solid contender in most other respects.

  • Very pleased with our new vehicle - 2010 Ford Edge

Traded 2000 Ford Windstar with 160,000 miles during Cash For Clunkers program qualifying for $3,500 & $3,500 in Ford Incentives total $7,000 off the price. Already averaging 22mpg mostly city driving with very little time above 45mph. Can not wait to see what mpg averages on the first all highway trip. Very smooth and quiet ride with plenty of room for 4 or 5 adults. Decided to shop the internet for Ford ESP Premium extended warranty and found $895 for 60 months/100,000 miles coverage rather than purchase at dealership for $1,795. Purchased top of line $300 GPS on my own vs spending $1,695 as installed option from Ford which also lets me remove it and use it when I rent.

  • Best SUV we have owned yet! - 2010 Ford Edge

This is our second Edge, and the improvements are outstanding from the first generation. Engine is powerful and quiet. Fit and finish rivals vehicles that cost $20,000 more. The fuel economy has improved also. We were looking at Mercedes and BMW as an option, and we choose the Edge!

  • Good for the long haul! - 2007 Ford Edge

I purchased my Edge 1/09. I got it used with about 31k miles on it. The only problem with it was a noise coming from the gas tank. Once I let the dealership know, they took care of it free of charge to me. They said that it was the mechanism that keeps us from hearing the gasoline moving back and forth in the tank. Mine was loose and making lots of noise. No problems now!!! I travel to New York about twice a month and this is one sturdy and comfortable ride. The back seats recline some and the front seats are just wonderful. There is ample space in the back for luggage. Other than the gas tank issue, this has been a great experience thus far!

  • Think I made a mistake - 2009 Ford Edge

Had to replace a Jeep Grand Cherokee in a hurry and did not want another jeep. I think I made a mistake. Vehicle looks good and a has a smooth quiet ride, but the build and material quality is seems very cheap. The rear outer door handle feel like they could break off in your hand. Hard plastic throughout. probably wont keep for long.

Plenty of power and does well in the N.E. winters. Vista roof is awesome along with the power rear gate. Not too many flaws in this puppy.

  • Cash for Clunkers purchase - 2010 Ford Edge

I just bought a Ltd AWD. Im very happy with the car. Ive not noticed any of the poor braking distances that consumer reports mentions, but Im not a tailgater either. I am getting about 20mpg on average. I think this is a lot of car for the money. The features, design and comfort are all very high for the money. The next tier choice up in pricing for a crossover just doesnt offer that much more to justify the pricing. This is a lot of car for the money and is solidly built and well designed. You can feel the shifting though when you step on the gas on the highway to pass. Pickup is fine for me, but if you are really into power, the weight is pushing the need for a V8 - but still good.

Very practical. Lots of compliments on looks in and out. Ride is a bit stiff with the 20" whl option. Could handle a bit better if your giving up a plush ride. Plenty of go but TERRIBLE mileage for a V6. How others on here get 23+mpg is beyond me when mine doesnt even get 22mpg with cruise on at 60mph on the highway. I get 15city/20highway regularly. Car is too heavy at 4300lbs but strangely the doors are too light and slam shut too easily. Had a problem known to ford with drivers side heat not getting as hot as the passengers. heater core replaced. fixed. Others on here complain about warm A/C but strangely mine is mind numbing COLD! I have to turn it down in 95 degree weather often.

  • Poor city MPG 14 or less - 2009 Ford Edge
    By -

I am unhappy with the MPG in city driving. I struggle to get 14 MPG. Hwy driving at 70 MPH is great, over 25 MPG. My wife feels the passenger side seat does not slide back far enough to allow good leg room and it is hard for her to buckle the seat belt because the insert for the buckle is down to low. Other than that we enjoy the car.

  • Should have bought the Pilot - 2009 Ford Edge
    By -

I made the mistake of going for the best deal not the best automobile. My choice came down to Pilot or Edge and to save a few bucks went with the Edge. I am kicking myself now. Pilot was quieter, smoother, and had better quality materials especially interior. Cant believe I didnt notice only way to stop cruise is by braking. Edge looks nicer but quality wise doesnt compare.
