This Year's Model Updates:

Chevrolet offers revised 16- and 17-inch aluminum wheels, and 17-inch all-season tires are now optional on LT models. Other new features include a tire-pressure monitor and Hydroboost brakes that provide more reserve stopping power and decreased pedal effort, according to Chevrolet. A traction assist feature is available on two-wheel-drive Tahoes equipped with a locking rear differential. The trailering package includes a 7-to-4 pin brake wiring adapter. Finally, for added safety, there is now a front-passenger seatbelt reminder.

Pros:
  • Strong engines, roomy and versatile interior, numerous available amenities.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, interior materials could use improvement.

  • Great rig - 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

I bought my Tahoe used, off fleet, with about 14k miles on it back in 2005. As of Sep 2008 I can say this is a wonderful rig for what it is. Very comfortable. Great fuel economy for a vehicle of its size. Reliable. Good off road when I take it hunting (and the back is large enough for me to sleep in). For a family with two kids and a dog, our Tahoe fits perfectly. We often use the third row seats, so thats another nice addition. Overall, for its purpose, this is a great rig.

I have really been fortunate. Mine is fully loaded and all of us have enjoyed it. The vehicle has been excellent. We have driven many different terrains (on- road, off-road), mountains, pulled boats, cargo trailers, etc. and it has handle itself very well. The mpg is not too bad for an SUV. Average around 17.5. I cant think of anything that I would change except for the third row seats. Frankly, I like it better than the 2008 Tahoe.

2004 Tahoe LS 2WD, 5.3 liter flex fuel. We bought this vehicle in anticipation of reliability, decent mileage, good priced and to haul a large family in style. We got all four. We had one repair, which was a recall item. With 2wd, we had up to 22 MPG on the freeway (Catback exhaust and cold air intake). Impressive. City mileage is on par with other SUVs. We have had nine people in the Tahoe without any complaining. The only design flaw I see is the difficulty on how the rear passengers get in and out. Difficult task for an adult 6 foot or larger, but let room in the second row is great. All in all a comfortable family vehicle!

Gas mileage was bad at first, but has gotten much better. Getting about 16.5 mpg which is very good for the size. Ride is awesome. Quiet ride.

I think this is the best GM has to offer. The ride, power and handling are outstanding. Its comfortable leather heated seats and smooth ride make it a joy to drive on trips.

had an 02 LS. Perfectly good and reliable car but the rebates and GMCard money got me into an 04 with more options and a lower payment. I expected it to be same/same. Surprised the the new LS feels more refined. Bought the upscale LS with bucket seats, Bose, + trip computer/stearing wheel controls. Purchased the 5.3 and got 15+mpg first 2 tanks and 16+ third tank. Golly, darn.....all this power and size and repectable milage to boot. Love my Tahoe

Bought it from Carmax with 60 miles. Around 65 miles the speedometer went out, next the oil pressure sensor went out and I finally replaced the whole cluster...cost $400. Around 80 miles the flex fuel pump went out...the cost to replace was$1100. As I type this it is at the dealership because it has started leaking coolant and oil...the estimated cost is $1850.Im very disappointed in my Tahoe and as much as Ive enjoyed the features and roominess I will never buy another one.Im disappointed in Chevy too because Ive learned through all of these repairs that these are all very common in Tahoes. Its not fair that the consumer is left to pay when these are all common issues even in later models

We purchased the Tahoe for my wife but I like it so much that I rarely drive my own SUV. Drives great for such a large vehicle . However, I dont recommend exceeding the speed limit by much on sweeping mountain turns - I always feel on the edge of falling off the mountain. Other than a recurring clunk in the steering column (no effect on performance) the build quality has been excellent. If you have leather the heated seats are a must in cold weather.
