  • Awesome car to drive and looks great - 2005 Volvo S40

We bought this the last month and just love it. We opted for all options and used Edmunds for the quote... Wow what a nice feeling buying a car without hassle. The car drives like a champ with the sport package, makes great turns and has good pickup. Back seats are OK, but could be a little bigger but my wife still car pools with 3 people. The warranty cant be beat and to include all routine stuff is great compaired to what we got with my car (Ford). If I had to do it all over again I would without thinking. Its an awesome car at an awesome price

  • Great car, great price - 2005 Volvo S40

So far I love this car. It runs great and all the chicks dig it! I love all the automatic features and love the styling. Its my first European car and I must say, it blows my Honda Accord out of the water! The power is nice, but the turbo is a little tricky... but I managed to hit some nice speeds on the highway. Overall, I hope this car maintains its value in the long run!

The T5 has a fantastic balance of performace and comfort. The attention to detail in this car is remarkable.

  • Couldnt be happier - 2005 Volvo S40

We named our Swedish beauty Thor, and we honestly couldnt be happier with the performance, sexiness, drive, reliability, and overall feel of the car. On the freeway, cruise control is the only way to go if you want to avoid getting a speeding ticket. The car just itches to go fast. Fuel economy could be better, but what do you expect with such a powerful engine? Three years of driving this car and we are still deeply in love.

  • Volvo blew enginge turbo at 54 k - 2005 Volvo S40

My engine blew up when the turbo/intercooler literally blew up dumping all oil and coolant out without warning at 54k miles. I am sick. Volvo says tough luck.

Awesome car! The turbocharged engine is very powerful and will easily break the front tires loose. I have the sport package w/ dynamic sport suspension and it makes for a great handling car with little body lean. Geartronic automatic transmission is very smooth and fun manual control, it will actually allow you to take off in first, second, or third gear! This car feels very solid and the steering has nice weight and feel. Excellent build quality, everything feels solid and of high quality and nothing creaks, squeaks or rattles. This is a great, fun to drive car.

  • Not so good - 2005 Volvo S40

Was alright in the beginning. Then started having problems after a year or so. We have had multiple problems with the A/C and the heater. At least once a year we have had to deal with these issues. Just recently broke down 3 times in the past month. Definitely doesnt live up to all the hype of Volvos. Wouldnt recommend this car after the past month.

  • Volvo s40 t5 extended test drive - 2005 Volvo S40

I had the pleasure of driving a loaded 05 t5 for a couple weeks around the SF Bay area recently and came away very impressed. For comparison I test drove the g35 sedan, Audi A4, Subaru WRX and Passat V6; still the s40 came away w/ higher marks in imho. I had the opportunity to push it up to 125 and do some high speed mountain driving to test its road holding and passing prowess. Succeeded admirably w/out complaints nor any noticeable under/ oversteer or turbolag. This car loves to go. Ride was a good compromise between road- holding and comfort, though if it was me I would have stiffened the suspension slightly.

  • intro. to sport sedan - 2005 Volvo S40

The 2005 volvo s40 is a great intro. level sports sedan. For under $25,000 the s40 gives you a great unique design and comfort. The 2.5L engine is under powered for this car, and the lack of power doesnt give you a good fuel economy in this case. I am getting about 18-20 mpg for city and highway. The s40 have one of the best features for safety, it drives like a Toyota camry but it have to look of a great sport coupe.

  • Is it held together with plastic screws? - 2005 Volvo S40
    By -

What a piece of junk. I have owned many cars (German and American) and this one is just awful. I have 21000 miles on it but it drives like there are 121000 miles on the clock. A/C problems; stereo has a mind of its own; creaks, rattles, and shakes; the windows have a mind of there own; the gas gauge is unreliable; the ABS doesnt work; the whole steering system is screwed up and the list goes on. The car has gotten to the point where the steering and lack of ABS have made it almost unsafe and definitely unsettling to drive.
