This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

  • TDI Jetta: Awful Brakes! 23MPG Total - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Beware, as the TDI Diesel engine is Heavy, causing this car to Brake horribly. I have had 3 slow driving near misses due to braking being massively delayed. Folks these brakes are the worst I have ever driven. 23 MPG combined, you can call this good, but forget about all these 40 and 50MPG FALSE CLAIMS.

I was very dissapointed in the car, it was a demo when I bought it with less than 10,000 miles but still in perfect condition and the price was acceptable but right away it started over heating and had electronic & ignition problems, I was not getting the gas mileage I should have and it completely shut down one time and left me stranded while out of town. repairs were made but still had electronic issues to date, This was my first Volkswagen purchase and I was not impressed at all, I recently traded the car in at a loss just to get rid of this headache machine.

  • 1.5+ year ownership. Would buy it again. - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I purchased my Jetta TDi early January 2010 and at the time of writing this it is latter September 2011. Since purchasing the vehicle I have been using Fuelly.com to track my expenses and fuel usage from mile 1. Mixed city driving and average around 38 miles to gallon so I fuel up around once a month. Highway to DC 50+ mpg back roads to Ocean City loaded down with luggage and people 39 mpg. ISSUES: iPod cable (on third one and will replace this one on warranty). Bluetooth issue at purchase. Could not pair phone with it. Warranty replace. RCD10 media button came off on my finger more than likely do to interior temp was over 120 degrees F. Transmission did not engage once on a steep hill

  • Love the car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I spent 2 years looking for a good commuter car. I bought the tdi sportwagen last month and it has exceeded expectations. Ive been getting 39-45 mpg. My 64" husband fits nicely and theres still enough leg room in the back for two boys or not so tall adults. The storage in the back is great. Big enough for an 80 lb dog. Love the way the seats fold flat for transporting larger items.

Had the car for two weeks and put just over 1,500 miles on it. Snow in NE kept it in the garage a few days. Had one small glitch with sensor in the exhaust system, which was fixed right and on time. Since then shes been perfect. Ride is firm but supple. Seats are super supportive, great on long drives. Steering is fantastic. Engine and trans are THE BEST. Very torquey diesel and DSG really suits it well, a great combo. The negatives: heat in a diesel is a long wait; heated seats make up for that. Control knobs for heater are smooth/slippery to the touch. The pillar between front/rear window is huge. Takes some moving about to see around them. All in all a great long range cruiser!

  • 9k Update - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive had the car for a little over 4 months and have 9k on it and I still love it. I average 45 mpg combined with 75% highway. I drive 27 mi to work and my highest comp mpg has been 51.7 mpg, coasting and 55-60 mph, typ is 48 mpg.Love the radio and the SmartCard insert.I have the panoramic roof which is great for continuing to watch a bird/plane you first see from the side windows. This car is fast off the line and when you punch it, excellent.Low road noise, great quality, great features and can fit two adults in back comfortably .I have been putting my kayaks on top and love that it is low, I can put my 55-60 lbers up by myself from the side .With the panoramic get the VW rack due to low clearance

This is my commuter and our family car. one year and 10000 miles, at 40.5 mpg [I have an excel spreadsheet for mileage] for a car with 95% commute of half 35 to 45 mph then highway, total of 58 mile round trip for work. Mileage is getting better, with the computer reporting a best of 49.1 mpg one morning on the way to work recently, when I made all the lights. My only short trip was over 45 mpg, for a 300 mile trip. I love the ergonomic features of this car for its price.

  • So Far So Good - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I have wanted a diesel for years. Finally ordered a no options car from local dealer. Order time was about 3 months. Had to break in on a long trip of 1600 miles but seems to have turned out OK. So far no problems. Only annoyance is squeaky brakes in the morning when I first start it up. Mileage has been exactly as advertised, at least according to the onboard mileage indicator. I like the manual transmission but it does give a little chatter into second gear until it gets warmed up, after that it shifts very smoothly. Side mirrors are smaller than I am used to but vision is otherwise pretty good. Fueling is somewhat messier than gas. Engine is very torquey!
