This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

I bought a 2010 Jetta Sportwagen Diesel with 6 speed Std. Transmission in Nov. 2009. I was looking for a vehicle that a) Good for carrying a bicycle (my hobby) b) Good fuel economy c) Fun to drive. This car is very good on all counts and no problems so far.

Have put 37000+ flawless mile on the vehicle. Not one problem. Been to the dealer three times for free oil change and service. Always get 42 to 44 per tank with individual drives of over 50mpg. Seats are very comfortable, ergonomics are first rate. Vehicle is very easy to live with on a day to day basis. Did not get nav system, GARMIN is much less expensive.

  • Check out your dealer first - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my first vw and its hard to say if it will be my last. The car seems to drive well and the seats are just Ok for comfort. The iPod connection is supposed to control and charge the iPod as per the salesman. Well, this connection only works on the the old ipods. Funny this is a new car and it works on all equipment. The dealer will do nothing even though they lied to me about its equipment. After I purchased the car they spent about 5 minutes explaining everything. After returning home I noticed a scatch on the dashboard. I then called the manager of OBrien autogroup and he said I should have noticed it before I signed on the dotted line. In other words you are out of luck.

  • ALWAYS TROUBLE BYPASS THIS CAR! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

The day after I bought the car the passenger seat got stuck laying flat (my daughter was laying down for 5 minutes while I went into the bank). The electrical system continually goes bad and the car will not start. 2 years in I had to replace the air conditioner. The trunk broke two weeks after I bought the car. I back the car up out of the driveway and it continually stalls out. The oil light never comes on even if the oil is low. I have to replace the headlights and back lights every other month. The Dealership is horrific and I never go there because I am treated so poorly. I pray everyday for something to not go wrong with this car, because it seemingly does.

  • My favorite car - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

The diesel is fantastic. Average mileage 41 in 3600 miles of driving. Everything about the car is fantastic. My last car was a late model BMW. I will never go back. VW design is fantastic and build quality and reliability are very good. Tons of features for the money. My favorite car.

  • Surprising VW - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

After a lot of research into mid- priced cars with good fuel economy, I replaced my 3rd leased BWM (a 3, 5, and 3 coupe) with the 2010 TDI Wagon...$ for $ this is the one of the best cars that Ive owned. Very comfortable on my 4+ hr weekly commute, quiet, and very good, "German" handling. Its not a BMW, but at half the sticker price of a 335 diesel its a great car. With just over 2000 miles I averaged 50.2 mpgs on my past Mondays commute which is 90:10 hwy:city. Overall, Im averaging 46 mpg doing about 85:15, hwy:city. There is plenty of room for passengers, cargo and dog crates. This car really does everything well!

Loaded with extras, sunroof, excellent handling, great mileage, dealer incentives, bluetooth hands-free, ipod connection...whats not to love. Hopefully, reliability is not an issue.

  • I am a VW driver forever! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I love the car--its spunky and reliable. I get better mileage than advertised: 28-33 mpg. Its VERY well built! Makes me happy to drive it. I love my VW! And the dealer was great to work with me, great price, great interest rate, excellent trade in and upgrades.

  • First impressions - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Traded in my 04 Acura TL in search of better gas mileage. Mission accomplished - the Jetta gets 34 mpg on my commute that yielded 19-20 mpg in the TL. The Jetta TDI is fun to drive, I feel even more confident through the twisities than in the TL. There are many thoughtful details like ample storage in the door and glove box as well under the floor of the rear cargo area. The Ipod connector is delightful as well allowing full menus. Touch screen audio is well done. Surprised that I liked the 16" wheels over the 17s Bluetooth connection is "answer only" no voice command or interface for dialing. Found a work-around using the cell phone voice command (sad that a $50 cell trumps a $30K car).

  • Excellent vehicle in all respects - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This vehicle is the perfect combination of fun & frugal. The build quality exceeds expectations for a vehicle of this price. The turbo diesel has adequate acceleration but not exciting. Still very fun to drive (I have the manual trans) and the turbo will punch you into the seat at around 2K RPM. The impressive mileage (35-40 in mixed driving) is just considering that its actually a sporty, good-looking, fun to drive vehicle. Seats are very comfortable. Noticeably more firm. Go with the 17" wheels for a better driving experience. Great storage in the rear. More than many small-ish SUVs.
