This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, there is a refreshed instrument panel and cabin trim, a new climate control system and a new radio. Most trims also see a new leather-wrapped, multifunction steering wheel and standard Bluetooth connectivity. An iPod connection becomes a separate option (you had to get the navigation system before) while the SportWagen loses its SEL trim level and the accompanying turbocharged engine. The sport-tuned GLI has been discontinued. Finally, there's a new Limited Edition trim and the TDI Cup "Street" Edition debuts with an extra helping of tuner flavor.

Pros:
  • Diverse selection of strong engines, stellar fuel economy in TDI trim, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
Cons:
  • Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, lackluster brake performance, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

  • I truly hate to part with my Jetta TDI! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

  • Hybrid & SUV killer - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

When my old XTerra wore out I started shoping for a replacement and couldnt find a small-medium SUV that I liked and the fuel mileage was bad in all of them. Then I stumbled accross the Jetta sportwagon TDI. I liked the specs and the looks were ok, but it was the test drive that sold me within the 1st minute. After 3 months and 4500 miles I havent looked back once. The only problem is that my wife and I are always fighting for the Jetta. Her accord sits in the garge most of the time.

  • Amazing handling, pick-up, and interiors - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

We are expecting our first baby and wanted something more spacious and safe than our old sedan. However, we also wanted something with good mileage that was also powerful (that ruled out the Prius). This car fit the bill perfectly. We are averaging about 35 mpg after 2000 miles (city+hwy) and the car has some serious pick-up. It handles beautifully and has some serious pick-up.The interiors are very stylish and the controls are very practical. We had the power sunroof added on and it is well worth the money, makes us feel like we are in a convertible. We paid MSRP.

  • Love it, but one regret - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

3 months and 3000 miles later and what a great little car! Fun to drive, 45 mpg highway (cruise on 69) overall average of 35 mpg +. Flexibility of a wagon is great. Ipod integration nice, if a little slow at times. Had I known that the navi system was navi only, no upgrade on the bluetooth, I may have thought twice about this option. VW has a bluetooth "Low" and "High" and the JSW TDI is low, so no voice dial or phone book import. Presented upgrade instructions found on line to the dealer and they offered to swap in the 9W3 unit for a mere $600 or so ($465 control unit, $25 for the antenna, 80 labor). They were as accommodative as could be, so no hard feelings... Oh well, live and learn

  • An Excellent Wagon - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

I was surprised by how good the DSG transmission is! I normally prefer a manual gearbox on small cars - but the DSG is superb. The interior is very clean and well designed, I like the access panel in the rear seat for carrying long objects. The extra torque from the diesel is also a lot of fun. Im trying to see just how economical I can be on my commute (80% freeway) my best so far is 42 mpg.

  • LOVE my new Jetta SportWagen TDI! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Never had a VW before, but wanted to replace our nice 05 MT Subaru Legacy wagon with an AT car that got better mpg but was as nicely appointed and fun to drive. After I test drove the 2010 Prius, my husband suggested we just stop by the nearby VW dealer to check out their TDI models. I knew almost nothing about clean diesel technology and what good mpg these cars get. When I first hopped into the Jetta SportWagen TDI, I was IMMEDIATELY sold!! Car is beautifully designed and appointed, solid, and has a fun and sporty feel. MPG is fabulous, and I understand it just improves over time, so I expect to average over 40 mpg in mixed driving. Im happy when I drive it, and thats the bottom line!

Great car, excellent acceleration, a bit jerky with slow speed braking, but overall a great car. Fit and finish are excellent. Very comfortable.

  • U can take it to the bank! - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

What a car! My girlfriends BMW and my VW are almost the same. Honestly I couldnt beleive it myself. I have to say my girlfriends car is three years older than mine. I couldnt be more happy with the Jetta. It has the power of a sports car, the handling of a luxuray car and the price speaks for itself. I read the reveiws and a couple of the neg. feedback contradict themselfves. I dont know of many cars that hold their value like the jetta. One person comiplained of repair cost mind you VW agreed to share after their warranty expired. I have not owned a better car for the price. My next car will be a new VW Jetta. I drove from NYC to Florida for 90 dollars. Five Star car no doubt. A steal!

  • Update - clutch failed at 20k miles - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I tried to add this as a comment to my previous review, but the site was not cooperating. But, I would be remiss not to provide an update on the resolution. VW did agree to pay for the repair as a courtesy, acknowledging that it was an unexpected failure to have it happen so soon. I must admit I was pretty shocked when they told me that, but pleasantly so. While I am still disappointed that the clutch failed so soon, I must applaud VW for doing right by me and standing by the car.

  • Recurring Emissions Problem - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

In theory, I absolutely LOVE this car - - its sleek & maneuverable, with refined interior, great features package, excellent power and mileage (45+), BUT...the "Check Engine" light has come on for the THIRD time, and it only has 620 miles on it. VW has tried fixing it twice, but they now acknowledge there is no known fix at this time. Unless they iron it out this time, Im invoking Lemon Law and taking my money back.
