This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • I Got a Lemon - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This car has had nothing but problems since day one. First the bolts holding the door panels on fell out of the passenger’s rear door. Second, I have had a rough Idle that VW is unable to fix since about 5,000 miles. I turned in the BBB and they said it wasnt a serious enough problem even though is has been around for 20,000 miles, and five months. Next I opened my trunk one day and water came pouring out of my trunk lid, bad seal around rear light. Lastly and most dangerous, I rear-end another car and caused almost $8,000 in damage to the car and the air bags did not deploy. Luckily I was not hurt. The front impact sensor was destroyed, as well as many other parts. Dont buy this car!

  • Buyer Beware.... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive had my 2006, 2.5 L automatic Jetta for about 3 years and I cant understand how it gets good reliability ratings. My car has 67,000 miles and has had a number of high-priced repairs. It seems like the check engine light in tthis car come on regularly. So far I had an emission problem, replaced a CV joint boot, and most notably replaced the large fan (the large fan repair was nearly $500). Im going back to my Toyota dealership and if my gas pedal sticks, I will still have a more reliable car!

  • Electrical NIGHTMARE!! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my GLI in August 09 with 22,700 miles. Had it for less than 6 months and the headache began. Battery went dead and has been to the dealership 4 times in 30 days! Dealership actually admitted "They have no idea, whats causing the battery to keep dying." They kept it in their possesion once for 13 days & got it "all fixed." (by their standards) Brought it home, 36 hrs later, DEAD BATTERY! They replaced battery, radio, and now have ordered motor for the drvr back window. When the car runs, it is a DEMON! but, dont expect it to be reliable. 2nd VW Ive owned, 1st was a Passat; it had elec probs too. DONT BUY A VW!!!!

  • My Last VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Ive owned many VWs since 1959, Beetles, Vans, Dasher Diesel, 3 Rabbit Diesels. All served me well. I bought the 2006 Jetta TDI assuming it would be the best, it was my first new VW. Metal skin paper thin, dents from slightest touch of anything hard. Flywheel broke at 30000 for no reason, VW said they had problems. Was replaced under warranty, but VW said I should have a new Clutch. I argued with Idiots at VW that if it was bad that the broken flywheel caused it. I talked to many persons in warranty and none had any mechanical knowledge. Clutch cost me $600. 2 Yr after warranty ended clutch failed again. Engine light intermittent from 2nd year, Excess Smoke since new. It is my last VW

  • It’s not the German VW - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Bought this 2.5 Jetta new over 32kCND in Canada in 2006. First class maintenance with VW dealer and paint looks like new. Most of the drive on Hwy and no drive on manual mode. The fact is the transmission slips at gear 3, 4 and then 2 at 192k km (120kmiles). It’ll cost too much to rebuild or replace the transmission (VW quoted over $6kCND +tax replace). I expected to run this VW 250-300k km but only 190k km. So, it’s almost no value now. It is a good looking small VW. Pro: Looks like very well made car even after 10 years. Con: Loudly drive, too much bumping on Hwy. Overall: cost, small, vibration

  • Jetta Junk - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I take very good care of my autos. Service is done as specified by the manufacturer, always using the best quality parts available. This Jetta is the worst car that I have ever owned. I have bought 17 new cars in the last 20 years for my family. I have owned Nissans, Fords, GMs, Mazdas, Dodges, Toyotas and Mercedes. Any of these autos are hands down better autos than a VW Jetta. Maintenece on this Jetta is the worst I have ever seen. I have a 2004 Corvette that costs far less to maintain than this piece of junk. Do not even use VW and Mercedes in the same sentence. VW is not even close in any aspect to a Mercedes. Do not buy a 2006 Jetta 2.5.

  • Very disappointed, last VW ever for this guy. - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I like the style and performance of this vehicle when its running. However over the past 12 months Ive had to pay over $5,400 in repairs/maint. just to keep it running. On top of what was done under warranty before, the following has had to be replaced: flywheel, both front axles, another front axle (second time), camshaft, horn spring ($600), the timing belt and water pump also needed done at 100k miles to the tune of $1200. 117k total miles on car...Im selling it before something else fails and will never own another VW. These cars are fine under warranty...not worth paying off, may as well sell and buy another under warranty.

  • I should have bought a Honda - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car because I was following my heart and ignoring my head, what a costly mistake. I am currently in discussions with an attorney on lemon lawing the car. The car would not start the first day I had it. Towed to dealer, was told it was a software glitch. Two days later car left me and a client stranded out at lunch. Again, the dealer says software glitch. Last night the wipers would not work in a storm. I sat on the side of the road burning up my cell phone minutes instead. I have come to find out that the zone rep is not believable and that VW could care less. Ive gone as far as speaking with a VP of Customer Care. He said in so many words, you have a warranty.

  • Never buy a VW Again! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Car had problems from day one. Engine noise etc. Cheap made switches. This was my forth VW and last. Worst customer service in the industry. $89 oil change is ubsurd for a VW.

  • Dont buy this car ! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have a love hate relationship with my car. When its running, I love it the feel of the wheel and the way it handles the road. Unfortunately I didnt know of the known electrical problems until they started happening to me. From the first month of ownership this car has made repeated visits to the dealership. The electrical sleeve had to be replaced on the driver side because the wires broke, are they kidding? I had the ignition replaced, tires 2x, brakes... electrical components and more electrical components... Poor paint, it blisters in the summer and it wears off.
