This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Bad Auto Transmission - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Great Car on fuel mileage, however; about 1000 miles after warranty expired (60,000), transmission goes out. The dash rattles which gets annoying. The car handles good.

  • Warranty - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Did not have trouble until now at 105000 km. I lost power. Still at the dealership and who knows what all is wrong. They are starting with one part at a time. Since when should a care only run well for 100000 km and then be off of warranty. Does not make any sense to me and I should have checked the warranty closer. Have been told warranty is warranty and you are over the km. Waiting for the final results.

  • Got the Bad One Off the Lot - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I purchased my 2006 Jetta in September 2005. The car spent over 60 days total in the shop until February 2006. It had a fuel injection problem with intermittent loss of power. VW bought it back in January 06. I noticed the new car had more power and drove nicely (except for the clutch was very light and required a little bit more gas pedal.) The shop that services my car checked out everything on my car and said everything is OK. I took it to another dealership and they were amazed that I could drive it because the clutch was not engaging properly. I told them that this cars clutch was exactly like the first one I had and that I was told that this was normal. I drove a new 2007 TDI and it was much better. I traded it in for a Rabbit.

  • Avoid at all costs - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I was so excited to buy this car. However, Ive been nothing but dissapointed with it. First and foremost, the cost is much higher than what one would pay for other cars of this caliber. I thought that the additonal price would be justified by the ride. However, this car has been nothing but trouble.

  • Good so far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Just got my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T two days ago. I will update my review when Ive had it longer. I got a 2.0T with Package 2 for $500 UNDER DEALER INVOICE (just under $26,000). I paid $1,000 down for all fees, title, taxes, tags, including cap cost reduction of about $250 yielding monthly of about $365 for 36 month lease and 12,000 miles per year including 10% DC tax. I was going to get package 3 but there werent any around here that didnt also have navigation; tested navigation didnt seem worth it. I put 5 for reliability and build coz I dont have a basis to judge yet.

  • VW does not care - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

disintegrating dual mass flywheel: they wouldnt even buy me a gift certificate to McDonalds and now the dealer cannot guarantee to me that the replacement dual mass flywheel is any better than the one that just failed at 82,000 miles! So, do I have another $ 2100 repair in my future when this fly wheel fails also??? Nobody seems to know. If it werent for the good fuel efficiency, I would not own this car!

  • camshaft needs replacing at only 200k! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I am not impressed with having my cam shaft replaced at only 200k. To top off the cost of repair vw is charging double for the major replacement parts over OEM. I purchased the shaft for 480 (vw was 985) and the follow (lifters) for 180 (vw was 464). Add the extra taxes I dont have to pay on money saved and I saved a 1000 dollars just by making a few calls on the parts. 16 hours labour at 115 per and they still HAVE to gouge me on the parts. Just doesnt seem fair after spending an additional 10k to purchase a diesel so i wouldnt have to worry about major expenses so soon. I must say in vw defence that after all these years they have kept the treat women like they dont have a clue spirit!

  • Dump this car after 100k - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought a 2006 Jetta TDI that had endless problems right off of the lot. A week after buying it, the car would choke and lose all power. I took it in, they said they fixed it, and it happened again, and around and around we went. Finally i told the dealer i wanted a new car for free and they could take the lemon. It took the BBB to finally get me a new car. It was great until we hit 130k on the odo. Once we crossed this mark we spent $1,200 fixing a hissing sound, $900 trying to fix some engine light problem (which didnt fix it, go figure). Two months later the turbo went out ($3000). Did not fix turbo, not worth it, dumped the car. Last one i will buy

  • Worst Car Ever! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This VW is the worst car we have ever owned. We had problems with the emissions lights and transmission after 500 miles! We got it bought back by VW and bought a Honda Accord. We are 20 year VW customers. We will now never buy a VW again. I would avoid this car like the dog poo its made of!

  • Preventative maintnance from dealership does NOT prevent big problems - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The 2006 Jetta is certainly fun and comfortable to drive, but is just a big plastic peice of junk. Lets first start with the plastic bottom plate (covering the entire undercarrige of the engine). The only function I can see for this part is to deter you from changing you own oil (containing about 16 star screws).. This car has had all oil changes and inspections by dealer ON TIME.. At 63,000 miles, check engine light came on and a visit to the dealership came back with a $2000+ engine coolant system repair. $1030 for the fans and an additional $1000 for all wires, connectors, and sensors, $340 for CV boot (reportedly cracked and leaking) on front axil.
