Overview & Reviews
A completely redesigned Jetta sedan has arrived as a midyear replacement, but some versions of the previous version are still available. The GLI VR6 version of the old model was dropped from the lineup, while the GLI 1.8T added an automatic transmission to the options list.

Awesome Car - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Max - December 7 - 9:10 pmThis car is great. It has every feature imaginable. For around 25 thousand, you can get an amazing car, around 10 times better than any Nissan. Safety is good. It has 8 airbags, which are depowered and they turn off if very light people are sitting in the front seats. Reinforced metal bars in the doors. Fast and you do not feel the gears changing. GREAATTT CAR!!!!

Insane - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Sacalait - December 3 - 11:36 pmI would have never imagined so much from a diesel. At 3,000 rpms I was doing 90 mph getting 42 mpg with plenty of pedal left! Thats just insane. This car is great for anyone commuting daily more than 25 miles, its fun, safe, and economical.

Fun, but Unreliable - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Dan - October 25 - 3:06 pmPurchased this car as a certified used vehicle from a VW dealer a little over a year ago. Fun to drive, mileage is excellent. However, Ive spent way too much time in the dealers service waiting room. Broken trunk latch, peeling radio controls, two bad cooling fans, bad rear brake calipers, smearing and chattering windshield wipers. In a few days Im having the windshield replaced because it is so scratched and full of tiny pitting that it is dangerous to drive at night. Dealership claims the windshield is due to "external factors", but based on the uniformity of the pitting Im sure it is a materials defect. Ive wasted too much time getting this car fixed!

Maintenance expensive, had some trouble - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By HighMileage - October 15 - 1:06 amI put over 230000 km in 4 years on my Jetta. It did stay remarkably tight. Parts I had to replace include 5 wheel bearings, a dozen headlight bulbs, a new turbo for $2400., a fuel pump for $550., a turbo hose, various front end parts, e-brake cables etc. The fuel mileage is good and you think you are getting ahead but you pay it all back for the $100 oil changes and $300 every 32000km for fuel filters. My other complaint is the electrical systems, had intermittent trouble with headlights and my door lock system. For a while there I thought I owned HERBIE. Lastly, everybody loves the heated seats because a TDI takes 30 minutes of driving to actually heat up. HELLO TOYOTA HERE I COME.

Yes, Almost Grown UP - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mary - September 27 - 7:03 amI have owned VWs for the past 36 years (Bug, Rabbit, Jetta, Passats, 11 all told) and the NEW 2.5l, 5 cyclinder is the most fun yet. Had the GLX-Jetta five years previously and the 2.5 has many more accutrements and handles better.

Best car on the Road by far - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Volkswagen Dream - September 26 - 12:16 amIi love my Jetta GLI I wouldnt go with anything else. The handling and the looks of this car is worth every bit of the price tag. The new GLI 05 1/2 will be even better but I just love the look of the 05.

2005 Jetta TDI (Pumpe Duese) - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Brian - September 24 - 11:36 amThe new Pumpe Duese TDI offered in the 2005 Jetta is even better than the already proven diesel of the last generation. The new TDI features a direct injection, which as a by-product boosted engine performance and fuel economy. For those interested in speed - the New TDI Jetta will out perform the 2.0L gas 5 speed manual Jetta and get twice the gas mileage during the process! Overall, the new Jetta drives with outstanding peformance, efficency, balence and versatility.
