Overview & Reviews
A completely redesigned Jetta sedan has arrived as a midyear replacement, but some versions of the previous version are still available. The GLI VR6 version of the old model was dropped from the lineup, while the GLI 1.8T added an automatic transmission to the options list.

- Powerful turbo engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, excellent crash test scores, solid build quality. Cons
- Tight rear-seat legroom and weak base four-cylinder on old model, somewhat bland styling on new Jetta.

My 1st VW is simply fantastic.... - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Steve - October 30 - 10:20 pmThis being my first VW, I was unsure what to expect. I know that it was the ONLY vehicle I test drove that just "felt" right; great feel & handling. The quality appeared greater in this vehicle as well. The outward appearance is sleek & the features are more intuitive than with other cars I drove. I LOVE to drive it! Im a satisfied customer of the new Jetta.

Premium sedan - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Ursula Fries-Herfort - October 30 - 3:40 pmThis car can not be compared to the civic or corolla. It is a class of its own, closer maybe to the passat or accord but cheaper. The interior is that of a premium car. Great comfort with great fuel efficiency. Enough space for a family of 4, huge trunk makes it a great car for travel. When you drive it you forget that it is a diesel engine.

So Far So Good - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Si - September 6 - 8:43 amWe bought one of the first New Jettas in 2005 after considering Toyota and Honda, but the interior of the Jetta was far superior. So far the only trouble weve had was a cooling fan that would not stop running and was replaced by the dealer under warranty. There was one surprise: the rear brake pads needed to be replaced at 18,000 miles while the front brake pads looked like new. Beware of the state troopers - the car really comes alive once you pass 80 mph!

Great performance, zero reliability - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By yoli - July 24 - 9:33 pmLove it and hate it. Just name a few problems fixed on my Jetta 2002: - First week of ownership, rear passenger door couldnt open because cable fell down inside the door panel. - One piece radio got replaced three times. - Ignition coils replaced at four times. - Windshield wrapper loosened, ridiculous. - Now the front brake squeaks, I was told that there is no way to fix unless change the whole brake pads, disks, etc, I cant believe that.

minor changes - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By peter - July 20 - 11:10 pmGreat car, only issues, car is not level, higher in rear. Driver seat feels like you are tilted forward (falling forward), not sitting level. Also front windshield is smaller than previous Jettas and window pillars are obstructing drivers view, saftey issues. Car has great mileage.

SWEEEEET!!!!! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By Milojenkins - July 16 - 2:13 amI have had VWs for the last 8 years, and this one tops them all. We have had Golfs, GTIs, and most recently a 2004 Passat, but this Jetta is the best package I have ever seen in a car at 25K or less. You cant touch it in another make for the money.

Okay Car, But I Would Not Buy Another VW - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
By 123Blue - June 13 - 6:10 amThis our third VW. We also have an 01 Beetle and an 04 Passat. I purchased my 05 New Jetta 2.5 in June 2008 w/ 27k miles on it, previously a loaner. Compared to similarly priced cars (Civics, Corollas) the Jetta had a lot more features for the price. Fully loaded with leatherette interior, rain sensing wipers, auto lights, etc. Nice ride, a little sporty, not too fast, but not too slow either. Reliable as far as getting from point A to point B, but way too many problems with the build quality. Faulty trunk latch, auto window stopped working, lightbulb sensor going on and off, sunroof acting funny, buttons peeling, even the gas cap not unlocking. Will not be buying another VW!
