  • Nothing but frustration - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

This vehicle is enjoyable to drive and not bad on the design. However, as far as quality, I have had nothing but problems since I drove it off the lot. Between the recalls and the other problems Ive had with it, it is in the shop more than on my driveway. The list of problems is extensive ranging from the latch on the trunk to the wiring and the brakes. I would not recommend purchasing this vehicle.

First of all, my fuel economy is awesome. I have been getting upwards of 40 mpg in combined highway / city driving. It is generally very fun to drive. It has a very smooth and forgiving clutch and shifter. It has good pickup and can go pretty fast. Ive had a few problems though. My window on my drivers side fell off the track and needed to be put back on. Thankfully it was covered under warranty. Now, I am developing some trouble with my speakers. But generally, this car is pretty nice.

  • Software Problem for Jetta CA, MA and NY - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

As all of you who own a 2004 or 2005 model year Volkswagen Jetta sold in California and other states, the car has a unique problem that causes it not to start smoothly in the morning. I found numerous complaints filed to the National Highway Transporation Safety Administration for the 2004 Jetta. The jerk start is caused the sudden engagement of transmission when the brake lamp is turned off. Until then, there is no drive power supplied to the drive shaft. Dont you feel it? Other than that this is a nice car.

  • Favorite Diesel - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I chose the diesel option for it super mileage and I am not disappointed. My commute is 30 miles each way, 90% highway speeds and I average 48 mpg! On a trip to Florida I got in the low 50s driving 70 miles per hour. Front seat are comfortable but back seats are too small for large adults. The heat and cooling controls are too low and you have to take your eyes off the road to adjust them.

  • Luv the VW - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I love, love, love my new VW! I feel Llke I am driving an expensive car but, Im not. I went from a Ford to VW and I could not be happier. It is good on gas, its so cute, and has an awesome stereo system in it!

  • Cute, Peppy Car - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The new Jettas engine is more peppy than the previous one, but could always use more power. With the transmission in "sport" mode, or in Tiptronic, the power was fine. Interior design is genius, and the outside is attractive, especially in black with that chrome grill.

  • 2005 and One-half Is Superb! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

This car is an absolute joy to drive! It has that solid, self-assured feel of German automotive engineering that exudes quality and performance. The only reason that I didnt give it all "10s" across the board is that there are cars out there with better performance, design, and comfort...but they cost more than twice as much! Interior features, fit and finish is outstanding. Ride and cornering are excellent. Get-up-and-go...it has plenty! The multi-function display, digital climate control, and the premium sound system with XM radio all contribute to a great driving experience. I will be a loyal VW customer after this.

  • Germans do it better! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

This was my first brand new car and Ive been completely happy with it. The base line model (GL) doesnt feel very base line with remote key less entry, power windows/locks, CD AM/FM and cassette, cruise control, chrome trim accents and those cool purple dash board lights. Its comfortable, reliable, nice to drive and gets good mileage. Servicing is reasonably priced and so is the car itself. I dont think the signal lights staying on were manufacturer default, but operator malfunction. Heres a tip, turn the lights OFF and they wont run your battery down. Good luck backing up in that ION. (thats a bad shape)

  • Unable to resolve problems - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

All new cars may have problems but, it is how the dealership and company handle these problems that show the mark of true concern for the consumer. I own a 2005 Jetta GLI which has been in the shop seven times in less than 7,000 miles and the problem is still unresolved. The Volkswagen of America claims the problem belongs to the dearship and the dealership state the problem belongs to the company. The only communication available to the consumer is a customer representive who regardless of the customers comments relies strictly on what is stated by the service manager. The service manager is basically in charge of all problems involving Volkwagen products.

  • Problems Already - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought my 2005 Jetta used with around 30K miles on it and have had it just over a year. I love the looks of it and have enjoyed having the vehicle until now. My vehicle had 42K miles on it when I started hearing a rattling noise. Come to find out, I had to have most of my engine replaced! When I went to pick it up, I drove about 1 block from the dealership when my car started jerking and wouldn’t always accelerate when the gas was applied. I immediately drove it right back to the dealership and now Im needing a whole new transmission! Thank God all this is covered under warranty but I dont think its right that a car with so few miles should be having so many major problems!
