  • Great motor and reliable but Toyota quality poor. - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Having owned this Truck 10 years it has been reliable and solid. Poor gas milage and plasticky interior, doors are Fisher Price plastic and cracking.. Roomy in double cab. Beware of Toyota and them not confessing their problems with cracking leaf Springs and rusty frames. Toyota hides until they are smoked out on the many suspension problems.. Still awaiting my reimbursement for fixing the broken recalled parts.. Will be going back to Ford soon enough. Customer service experience is abysmal and Toyota seems to be riding on the past quality..

While still a new babe in the woods my 05 Tacoma is stunning beautiful, handles very well and the gas mileage is a real plus. I cant believe how finally someone in the automotive world woke up and designed an oil filter at a location where you can actually get to it without crawling under the vehicle. It is revolutionary, sort of. Anyway, simple types appreciate this kind of thought. It sells. I will say that even with all of the good things my Tacoma has to offer, I am disappointed in the lousy cup holders at the front of the console, my kitchen cup just doesnt work and I have been living with it for 25 years. A more universal holder would be better for future upgrades.

I replaced a Pathfinder with this truck and boy, what a difference!! The V6 is powerful enough to tow my bass boat with ease. The accelaration is excellent; the braking is good. Even with the off-road package, it is not that bumpy. We drove it to Destin; my wife and I were completely comfortable in the bucket seats. I HIGHLY recommend this truck.

  • Huge Improvement over previous - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I owned a 2000 Frontier and a 2002 Tacoma crew cab 4wd. The 2005 is light years ahead of the both. Ride, comfort and inside finish are excellent. I compared it to the Nissan which had much to offer but the ride and seats were marginal. If you want a compact 4wd truck, the Tacoma is the best truck/value in the game. This truck is even great for long highway commutes. Only thing they need to add is the power window in the back like the Tundra.

I have owned a Nissan Frontier for years and was satisfied with it (I test drove the 05 Frontier and was not satisfied with it, especially with the gas milage the sticker displayed). I test drove the Tacoma (non-TRD pkg) and was impressed with the results, so I purchased one. What amazed me was the horsepower and torque it puts out for its size. I use 91 octane and average about 21 mpg both city and hwy. Overall, Im very pleased with this truck.

  • Regular Cab 4 cyl manual - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I am 64". I fit in the truck just fine, the problem is little room for my size 14 shoes, the toes hit the bottom of the dash. The telescoping steering wheel needs to come another 2-3" farther away from the dash. As is, with the seat all the way back, my arms at 10&4 are nearly straight, not that comfortable. In 5th gear, the stick knob is in the way of the temperature control. The gears are vague with the need to double clutch to get it into first at times. Otherwise, I am happy with the truck. There is plenty of power with the benefit of good gas mileage. Bed is great but cargo will skate around on slick surface. Im hoping the frame wont rust in ten years.

  • "A Great Truck" Revisited-2 Months Later - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

I reviewed this on 12/24, but I want to update. Since then, the truck has developed many problems. First was a serious rattle from the rear of the truck that occurs when the temperature drops below freezing. Supposedly, Toyota is aware of this problem, as it affects alot of trucks, but doesnt know how to fix it yet. Next was severe paint loss after driving only once in the snow, for about 15 miles. All of the paint along the rocker panels and rear fenders is coming off. This is happening to alot of trucks too, but so far, Toyota is not acknowledging its defective paint. Other problems include shuddering while accelerating and braking, and a noisy creaking dash and headboard.

  • Best Midsize Truck On The Market - 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota hit a home run with the redesigned Tacoma for 2005. The quality and standard feature set is just fantastic. This truck fits my needs perfectly. Please consider this truck if you want a well built fine looking and great driving vehicle.

Well, I havent bought one yet, but I drove it yesterday. I loved the 6- speed and the 4.0 V6, but the interior still seems cramped to me and my long legs (Im only 62"). Maybe Im not used to the high floor of a truck, but I dont see why my knees should be hitting both the steering wheel and the weird emergency brake handle sticking out of the dash. The seat doesnt go lower and the wheel was at its highest positon. I sat in a Colorado that didnt have this problem, but Im so nervous about buying a Chevy I might have to settle for the Tacomas tight drivers seat. On the plus side, I dont agree with the editor here who said the shifter was awkward - it, and the clutch, worked great!

Would have rathered a Tundra but still very much satisified with my Tacoma Prerunner. The seats seem to be coming apart. TRD Sport
