This Year's Model Updates:

The Sienna has been completely redesigned for 2004. Roomier and more powerful than before, Toyota's minivan entry now has the all-important fold-flat third-row seat, as well as a choice of seven- or eight-passenger seating (on lower level trims) and available all-wheel drive.

Pros:
  • Reliable Camry genes, refined V6, fold-flat 60/40 third-row seat, seven- and eight-passenger seating configurations, available all-wheel drive.

  • Excellent vehicle - 2004 Toyota Sienna

I have been completely thrilled with this vehicle. It is everything I was looking for: practical, spacious, comfortable, quiet, reliable, convenient. The engine provides plenty of power. Climate controls allow you to forget about managing the interior. All the controls and systems are easy to deploy/utilize. My only complaint is that the radio controls are a long stretch if you are changing radio stations, CDs, etc. (although there are volume controls on the steering wheel). If youre in the market for a minivan, check out the Sienna.

  • A little bus - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

We just purchased this car. It is really a little bus with lots of space and power and high mounted driver seat. It is very fast and handling is relatively nimble for such a big car. Fuel economy is OK at best (as a anti- SUV conservationist I feel really guilty about it, so I drive at 65 mph max where I get 26 mpg average). Interior design is beautiful with lots of space and in floor folding rear seats. Exterior is pretty good, but I could design a better nose. Finishing inside is OK. There are some misfiting plastic pieces and misaligned labels.

  • Trouble with tire changing & body paint - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

I have had incredible trouble changing a tire. The car fell off the jack and I cant get the tire gauge light to go off. It took my husband over a half hour to get the tire off the bottom of the car in the weird position it was in to unscrew it and get it under the car. If we had been on the side of the road when these flats happened, we would have been killed. Paint chips off the bumpers badly. My battery has died numerous times because of interior lights not auto turning off. All screws holding the flaps protecting motor over front time came out with flaps hitting wheels causing great scare. Toyota wouldnt replace because out of mile warranty (we had to evacuate to Dallas!).

  • First Year models - 2004 Toyota Sienna

Had trouble with the gas tank recall. First replacement tank leaked and left my wife stranded, two weeks now and no new part insight. According to other Edmund discussion groups, this has happened before to recall customers in other parts of the country. Is it a replacement part or shoddy workmanship at the dealer, I am not sure. A second first year problem are the run flat tires. After 3,000 miles, the tire gets a nail in it. Toyota informs me that the tire must be replaced and not repaired, list price $200. I had to wait five days for a new tire. According to Dunlop, these tires can be replaced, so much for misinformation.

  • Sienna rocks!!....and is a rock - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

I rate this vehicle very highly except in the area of acceleration. When you have to aggressively accelerate in traffic, there is a pronounced hesitation in applying power. The Toyota dealer has been unable to simulate but this hesitation, which appears to be computer-related affecting mixture or timing, makes the vehicle dangerous to drive because power is not there when you need it. Based on the dealers response, we will have to live with it.

  • Too expensive on tires - 2004 Toyota Sienna

Good for traveling but we have had to replace several tires and do more then normal alignments. More then one mechanic said the alignment was a problem. This has cost us money that should not be an issue. Also the noise level is bad and the CD players does not work well.

  • What they dont tell you about the AWD - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

First, I had to have the motor on the side door replaced. It took the local dealership 3 tries to fix, and they kept my car each time, refusing to pay for a rental. In addition, I was not aware that the AWD does not come with a spare tire, or a place to store a spare tire. I had a flat tire on a "run-flat"tire that was defective, and was not able to drive the car. I had to have the car towed to Toyota, where it took them 2 days to get a new tire. They would not cover any of the costs of towing, replacement, or car rental. In addition, all handbooks show this car with a spare. Buyer beware...it appears it is truly Toyota "Cutomer....No Service!"

  • So close to perfect - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

This van is tops! Great looks (especially w/ running boards), good performance, lavish interior. The family goes in style! It is so close to perfect... but... there is a disconcerting hesitation whenever I accelerate from a "near" stop (<5mph) that I *hope* will never be a larger problem. Also the design of the middle right seatbelt (captains seat) feed slot makes for slow or no retraction under normal use - a possible safety concern with a child who does not understand the importance of the seatbelt staying under tension. Otherwise I am very happy with my Sienna... now the dealership...was another story. Gary

  • First Toyota - 2004 Toyota Sienna

This is our first Toyota and we like it very much. It has a sold, well built feel and is very comfortable. The kids love the DVD player too. We did have a CV joint go bad at 6,000 miles which was disappointing. Still, overall, we have been satisfied.
