The XR is fun-to-drive, it has adequate power for all routine driving situations and it is hard to beat on its overall value. Mine has all the creature comforts, why buy more car?

I am 16 years old and bought this as my first car. It has 241000 miles on it but it still runs like its new. It has great pickup and great handling and is really fun to drive. It gets decent gas mileage. The only thing I had to do was change the hoses but that is normal with cars with a lot of miles. I highly recommend this car.

It was love at first site. I like everything about this car. The Matrix was built especially for me. I sat on the drivers seat and all the controls, panels, storages were right where they should be. I can control the radio without sluching forward. All the compartments are near. Thoughtful desing, space to put the quarters for toll, space to put my cups, great visibility, ample interior...

  • A fun car to live with ! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Ive had my Matrix about a month now and still get a little thrill out of driving it. I chose the base model with auto and the winter package as it really doesnt look/feel like a typical base model. Beware, the ride is too sports car like for some. Ive since realized that the front seats are about an inch too high for me (Im 6ft. tall). I have to slouch if I want to rest my elbows on longer drives. Kinda wish Id bitten the bullet and gone for the XR. Live and learn !

  • Put to the test, and it passed! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Let me start by saying I am not gentle with anything I own. I picked this car up with 180,000 miles for $2500 and it had not been taken care of. I learned how to drive stick on it and took it everywhere from the lower Sierra Nevada mountain range on trails where you need a 4x4, to out in the mohave desert where I jumed it so high I ripped the wheel wells out when I landed. It does not quit! The AC has always blown cold and the only thing that Ive ever done is give it an oil change, new tires, and a new clutch (that last one was my fault). Now sadly, just short of 200,000 miles the transmission has given out and it is on its way to the junk yard. But it has seen and done more than most trucks ever will and it has never left me stranded no matter where I go. The only thing that could be better is it has a little road noise and it doesnt shift very smooth, plus you have to put the clutch to the floor to shift. Mabey thats just mine but either way I am more than pleased with this car.

My mom and dad bought this car new and when I turned 16 in 2008, they turned it over to me. Before I had it, my brother drove it and got in a wreck with a large SUV and it survived with just a large dent in the front end. Since then, I have put this car through the wringer. Im a rock climber, so I am constantly travelling and the storage capacity is amazing with the folding back seats. This is my go-to road trip car. Its now 11 years old and I just took it up through the Adirondaks, White Mountains and to Maine and back to Ohio. It has a little over 150K and its still running strong. Im actually planning a trip across the country to visit my brother in Portland, OR from Ohio.

I may only be 16 but Ive driven some fast cars. This one is my favorite. Speedy, good braking and amazing handling are only a few of its great layout. The gauges are easy to read and they look especially nice in the dark. The in-dash shifter is a bit finiky to begin with but after a few drives it becomes natural. 10/10 A definite buy and worth the price.
