Overview & Reviews
A Sport trim level debuts and revised SAE testing procedures have resulted in reductions in the stated horsepower and torque ratings, though actual output is unchanged.
- Rides and handles like a Camry, smooth V6 engine, fuel-efficient four-cylinder, lots of standard safety features, high crash-test scores.
- Poor access to optional third-row seat, bland personality.

Quality goes a long way - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By easyrider - July 23 - 8:16 amBought the SUV new at the time this SUV was made in Japan 90%, 10% in the states. The trk {SUV} is good on gas especially with the K & N air filter I put in the air compartment, and get up an go power. More than any v-8. This SUV has 3.3 V6, people said was slow but with this air filter it acts like a race engine. I bought the 2 wd drive for towing my boat of 18 of which it pulls out of the water with a full tank. Mind you NO 4 WD drive. Actually would like a hybrid high. for future. Hybrids are a needed thing the way Gasoline is heading. Not 25 cent a gallon anymore.

Great ride for the money - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By Mark in Geneva IL - June 6 - 9:00 pmThis is our first Toyota from a long history of Hondas. So far so good. Were impressed with the build quality and ride quality as well. We love the easy to use gauges, and ergonomic design of the cabin. The rear seat area is very comfortable and large, we dont have the 3rd row seat. We opted for the 4 cyl. engine after driving the V6 we couldnt justify another $2K for the minimal difference in performance. The dealership is offering some great incentives with the redesigned 2007 around the corner.

Highlander, the real energizer bunny - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By Bill Ridgeway - February 12 - 5:39 pmThe only pricey maintenance item is the required timing belt replacement every 100,000 miles so when this Highlander keeps going for over 200,000 miles you will need to budget $500 for each change, otherwise just oil changes, tires and brakes

Stinky - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By Ken Steele - December 9 - 4:53 pmWe bought this Highlander just before Christmas in 2005, We like the vehicle except for one big problem, The smell ! after driving a short distance we start smelling a burning oil smell and it has totally ruined that new car smell, It is so embarassing to take anyone with us, they think the car is on fire. Really plays havoc on the sinuses too, despite the dealer promising the stench will go away it continues to this day, we are very dis-appointed in this car, dealer says the smell is normal? and will eventually go away? Buyers should be forewarned of this problem before selling the car to un- suspecting buyers, we would never have bought this car if we had known it had this terrible smell.

Toyota Highlander - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By PatH - December 6 - 12:23 amI done a lot of research for about 2 months before I purchased a Toyota Highlander. My Chevrolet Trailblazer was wrecked. I decided to go with the Highlander after good remarks on Edmunds.com. I wanted something roomy that got good gas mileage. Love the sunroof & JBL radio system. No one is more picky than I am & I highly recommend this vehicle. Exterior is not as sporty looking as my Trailblazer, but it works fine.

J. Review - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By J. Doxbeck - July 2 - 10:10 amComfy to drive, no blind spots like other SUVs I have driven. Very easy to handle and slip control comes in handy in when turning around icy corners. I love the look and feel. Lots of room for rear passengers and for cargo.

Im happy with my choice - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By billp8 - July 1 - 9:56 amI compared the HL with Jeep Liberty and Ford Escape. What sold me on the HL was the rear seat room, build quality, control layout, engine/transmission, and Toyotas reputation. I also like the rear hatch with the spare mounted below (versus the side-hinged door with gate- mounted spare on the Liberty). Mileage in the first 1000 miles is 17- 18 city, 21-23 highway.

LOVE IT!!! - 2006 Toyota Highlander
By Angel430 - June 4 - 7:40 pmThis is by far the BEST car/SUV I have ever had. And, my husband gets new cars almost every year. This one is going to STAY. I have severe back problems, the back support in both driver and passenger are superb. I have little pain while either driving or riding. Every option: 6 disc changer, DVD w/headphones, sunroof, 3rd row seats, GPS, all are wonderful. I have NO complaints. This is a keeper. Thank you Toyota!!
