This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

The overall design is fairly decent, however, the interior of my Camry has flaws. First of all, the radio has been replaced twice (its on the third one!), the console drink holder has broken and the brake pedal makes intermittent noise. The ride is very smooth and quite and the back seat is comfortable for evenings out with guests. Great turning radius and easy to drive. If Toyota can just get the interior problems corrected I would be overjoyed with the car.

I bought it used with 38000 miles. Engine light came on a few months after purchase. I ignored it. At 86000 miles I had the 02 sensor and catalytic converter fixed. Paid 1200.00 to get car fixed. Was not a happy camper. Since then, no other problems. I hope to drive it for at least 250000 miles.

  • Love my Camry - 2002 Toyota Camry

I am very pleased with my 2002 Camry SE. I purchased it new, and the styling still looks fresh. I have had absolutely zero problems with this car. It is still perfect and drives like new. Although it only has a 4 cyl engine, the pick up is excellent. Friends have commented that it feels like a V6 in power. This is the longest that Ive ever kept a car! (almost 5 years)

  • Good, reliable car, but some annoyances - 2002 Toyota Camry

Overall, very happy with the car. I am impressed with power and speed. Handling at higher speeds is ok (not as good as European cars like the Passat). I really like the interior - very roomy and comfortable. The engine is very quiet. The trunk is huge, and rear seats totally fold down, so I can put anything I want to in this car. Lots of minor complaints. I experience squeaking and occasionally rattling noises. Visibility out the back is not great - big blind spots caused by frame and rear spoiler. I have also experienced sudden jerking at 40-50 MPH from the automatic transmission when you let off the gas (I noticed this in someone elses review as well).

  • Thump in rear suspension - 2002 Toyota Camry

I love this car except for the thumping sound in the rear suspension on bumps. Its been to the dealership 3 times for this. The claim they hear nothing. Its always there on bumpy roads. I think they hear it but dont know of a fix. It is very annoying on bumpy roads or tar strips on the freeways.

  • Great and reliable car - 2002 Toyota Camry

I received this car as a hand-me-down from my aunt in 2009 with 66K miles. In the three years in my possession, it is the most reliable car Ive ever owned. In those three years, it has not needed anything for inspection, which makes me happy. Now at 104K miles, there are two MINOR problems that I discovered, such as a moaning steering wheel and a recent minor fuel leak. Overall it is a very trustworthy and stubborn car. I definitely recommend this car to anyone.

I love this car. I bought it new in November 2001 and still have it. This was purchased in Wisconsin and I had no trouble with snow and ice. I have since moved to Florida. It has been a great vehicle. The only problem I have had are with the muffler; for some reason, it needs to be replaced every two to three years, something to do with the connection to the catalytic converter. I had the headliner replaced for $106.00 in 2009. The seats, door seals, carpet, and paint are still in pretty good shape considering the age. Ive never had a more reliable car. Not looking forward to replacing it.

  • WORST CAMRY - 2002 Toyota Camry
    By -

This is my 3rd and LAST Camry. I previously had an 86 and an 91 and I am disgusted. The Seats are uncomfortable, the dash is to unusual and the styling is ugly. I do not know why I bought this car and I know I never will buy another Toyota. I should have bought the Honda when I had the chance.

  • Sweeeeet..... - 2002 Toyota Camry

My wife and I bought this car in February. We had driven the Nissan Maxima, Honda Accord (owned a Civic and CRV,so didnt want the same old blah Honda design) and looked at others as well. We finally narrowed in down to the Maxima and the Camry SE V6. We drove them back to back, Camry first. The Camry SE absolutely blew away the Maxima. The Maxima is more powerfull at 255 hp but the build quality wasnt there. It had a rough ride and a cheaper looking interior. The Camry is very roomy and comfortable. The engine purrs like a kitten. My wife drives it to work, but I cant wait for when I get to drive it on the weekends!!! Fabulous car....definitely not dissapointed.
