Overview & Reviews
Toyota has tinkered with the options packages, but otherwise left the Avalon alone. A new luxury package for the XL includes power leather-trimmed seats, 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a JBL audio system. There's also a Sport Luxury package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler in addition to the items in the luxury package.
- Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
- High price tag, funky dash design, toothy chrome grille.

Almost Perfect - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By Daisy - October 27 - 10:06 amI researched new cars for 4 months before deciding on the Toyota Avalon XLS. Quality, dependability, and interior space were what I wanted. The Avalon XLS is almost perfect. The ride is comfortable and solid. The back seat is large and very comortable for passengers, especially elderly people, making it easy to get in and out. I love driving this car!

The Cheaper lexus - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By fast_chip - October 12 - 2:33 amExcept for the cheap "general-make" tyres the car came with this one is truly dependable.

Nice car. - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By buyer - April 6 - 10:43 pmThis car is nice. We bought the XLS model 2001, and very happy w/ it. People keep on comparing this car to the Lexus model, however, I think for the price it maybe a better buy.

Avalon - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By JBarlo - March 4 - 10:00 amOur Avalon has 27000 miles. Its a great car. Plenty of room, great back seat, and a huge trunk. Plenty of power, and good on gas. Rides very smooth. Only had 2 problems. Breaks pulsating. Which is common for Avalons. And wood grain lifting from summer heat. Wish the outside looked as good as the inside. You get a lot of car for the money. But dont be fooled. It is not a Lexus. It doesnt ride like one or handle like one. Test drive the Volvos and Audis then compare the Avalon. Youll see the Avalon is a much better.

Super Quiet and Comfortable - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By RussB - December 26 - 10:00 amThis car is a pleasure to drive. Its so quiet at 65 mph, I can still hear soft musical passages on the well performing sound system. The quick acceleration allows me to get around the slow traffic even in short passing zones. Handling around curves is not like a sports car, but very good for a car this size. The only service required (other than scheduled) is repairing a small paint problem on the front bumper. The last 2 other new cars purchased required numerous dealer trips to get the kinks out.

Best car Ive driven, ever! - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By murty - December 24 - 2:00 amI bought this car a couple of months ago with nearly 150k miles on it, & I love driving it. My mechanic was impressed with its condition; he told me it will go another 100k! I have owned cars with 150k miles, always as a 2nd owner, & I always found them fairly uncomfortable. Ive owned a 76 Honda Civic, an 86 Toyota Tercel (which still runs), an 85 GM Oldsmobile, & a 94 Ford Taurus. The feel of the Avalon is not sporty, but it is wonderfully smooth and powerful. Suddenly I want to go for long drives again, like when I first began driving at 16. Ive only owned it for a couple of months, but already I am hoping to sell another of my cars to buy a 2nd Avalon (a newer XLS or Ltd).

first toyota - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By william1735 - July 27 - 2:00 amThis is the first toyota Ive owned and so far Im very happy with it. The car handles and rides extremely well. The fit and finish is great. On our first trip out of town we got 31.4 miles per gallon. The car has every option and thet all work wery good and easy to use. One thing missing is a light under the hood, this is pretty minor considering the over all car. would definately reccomend this car.

What a car! - 2002 Toyota Avalon
By Bug - May 21 - 10:00 amAs a two time Camry owner and lover, I was ready to move to a larger, more luxurious car. The Avalon stole my heart immediately and still has it. Its larger and so comfortable, pretty and classy. You hardly even know youre driving, its more like sitting at home in a comfortable chair. It handles better than any car Ive ever driven. Great visability. The XLS has plenty of bells and whistles, plenty of pampering. Top it all off with Toyota dependability. The only flaw is that I know of Toyotas buckeling under to Jesse Jacksons extortion tactics.
