This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota has tinkered with the options packages, but otherwise left the Avalon alone. A new luxury package for the XL includes power leather-trimmed seats, 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a JBL audio system. There's also a Sport Luxury package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler in addition to the items in the luxury package.

Pros:
  • Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.
Cons:
  • High price tag, funky dash design, toothy chrome grille.

the only thing I can say wrong is the front bucket seats dont have enought padding. On a long trip they get very unconfrontable.

Wonderful car to drive and transport passengers. Door handle quality is poor with pealing chrome. When rear left window is down about 4 inches I get a noise of flapping. I will buy another one but test drive with windows slightly down in back as the noise of flapping is very irritating. The only other problem I have had is the rear bumper paint is very fragile. It scrapes off with minor friction.

  • Really nice car - 2002 Toyota Avalon

If you like comfort, quiet ride and a quiet cabin at highway speeds then you really should consider this car. The car has plenty of power to accelerate quickly, as in turnpike merges and passing situations. The four wheel disk brakes are sure and responsive with no fade noted. Interior and exterior fit and finish are excellent. This car has very chiseled and angular lines in contrast with the rounded lines of the earlier Avalons and competing sedans, however, there are a lot of second generation Avalons on the road. The fact that the Toyota is known for reliability is what sells, in spite of the external style lines.

An excellent vehicle... smooth, quiet, and powerfull... more room and comfort for front and back passengers than the many SUVs I test drove... roomy trunk... big enough to feel secure, safe, and comfortable, and small enough to still feel somewhat sporty.

The exterior mirrors only tricky item on this vehicle-- too big when coming close to nearby items.

BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED

  • Loved it! Buy one. - 2002 Toyota Avalon

Great car. I just sold one with 140,000 miles on it and I had only only a couple of minor issues. I am 63" and weigh 230. Very comfortable. Test drove the newer model, but I really needed an SUV for work purposes. I love my SUV, but I already miss it.
