This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

  • Great with One Caveat - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Our 05 4Runner has been pretty much as advertised. Its extremely well built inside and out, has a smooth and quiet ride, and the V8 powers the truck effortlessly. My one beef is that it has a steady vibration in the steering wheel from the drive train... not a shimmy or the road... you can feel the vibration when accelerating and in overdrive. I dont think all 4Runners have it... be on the lookout for it when you test drive.

Read all your reviews before I purchased and they helped a lot. Once I bought the vehicle and actually got behind the wheel as an owner and then discovered what it can do, Im so happy. I wanted the v6 for the gas mileage thing, but got the v8 full-time 4wd edition and here are the real world stats... On the highway and 65 mph and under, 25-27.7 mpg. Yes, really. Was going to get a Lexus GX-470 (built on the same platform as the 4Runner and at the same factory in Tahara, Japan), but decided on the 2006 4Runner instead. Whisper quiet. Not as fancy of an interior as the Lexus, but all the important elements, performance and reliability are the same. What a great car.

This is my 3rd SUV (ford bronco II and GMC Jimmy). The 4Runner is by far more reliable, better looking, and able to do more real 4 wheeling than my previous mistakes. The only mistake Toyota made is a single power outlet in the front cabin, but a minor inconvenience compared with the problems on my last two. You will enjoy no rattles, great highway mileage with the V6 (22 MPG with K&N installed) and not a single problem in 14 months of use.

  • 2006 SR5 4WD 6 Cyl - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Purchased vehicle at end of 2005. Im 62" and I have the sunroof. At first the I thought that there wasnt enough headroom, but there is. Anyone slightly taller ought to consider no sunroof. The 6 cyl deliver more than sufficient power for most needs. The vehicle is quiet to drive and responsive. I used to drive a Subaru AWD that weighs 800 pounds less, but I only got 18-20 MPG City. The 4 runner is delivering 17 MPG so far during the break in period. The engine revs low and upshifts quickly to keep revs low and mileage high.

  • Couldnt be better! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

This car is amazing! Smooth rides, great handling, an all-a-round do everything car. Towing is exceptional (towed a 6x12 trailer for 2000 miles and didnt even notice it). Off road would be fun, but my wife wont let me take her car off road. I want another for myself. One person said the low-preasure light for the tire comes on. I found it to be the spare tire. All the other tires get checked and the spare gets forgotten. Toyota even has a sensor on the spare... way cool, but dont forget it or the light will bug you.

  • A Great Choice!! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

After driving this for three weeks, Im am soooo happy that I purchased this vehicle. Smooth and comfortable ride for an SUV. The V6 provides plenty of power and the gas mileage is better than I expected. Plenty of leg room for both the front and back seats (Im 65"), though the headroom could be a tiny bit higher. Quiet ride and responsive steering. Easy access to all instrument controls. This is the first imported car Ive ever owned and I should have gone import many years sooner. My 2000 Ford Explorer was a headache from day one! Other than buying a Corvette in the future, Ill never buy American again. Toyota will have a customer for life!

  • Great - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I recently bought this, and I like it even better after owning it for a few months. Its already beeen put to the test of many miles of washboarded roads and some moderate off roading on construction sites, and the thing that impresssed me most is the absence of even a single rattle over the bumps. I got it without the sunroof, because if you are over 6-foot, youll scrape your head on the sunroof.

  • No regrets - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Very comfortable drive compared to my last car was a 2002 Pathfinder. The balance of the car while taking curves are remarkable due to its wider wheelbase. Some of the interior features could have been improved but overall excellent vehicle.

  • best mid-size SUV ever owned! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Had limited 01 explorer v6 under powered and gas hungry.Test drove v6 and v8 toyota 4runner, v8 won my heart! Smooth and quick acceleration, love the JBL 10 speaker sound system, heated leather seats and mirrors.Had record snow this Dec. over 24 inches the 4 runner V8 AWD performed flawlessly, drove through snow drifts 4ft high with little loss of traction, it powered through like a true awd gladiator. The 4runner has had no problems in the 3 yrs that I have owned it. I have co-workers that are american suv guys they have commented on how sharp looking my 4runner is.The interior is exceptional sharp and exterior turns many heads. But it drives like a dream and am very satisfied with reliability

You will not find a better SUV on the market. Everthing is excellent about the 4Runner. A smooth quiet ride. Good acceleration and for an SUV, the gas mileage is not that bad.
