This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

  • The WRX Rocks - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I know youve heard it a million times, but the WRX Rules. Ive bought mine on New Years Eve and have been happy ever since. I can blow just about anyone away, just ask the guy in the new Altima I dusted at 120 on the way to New Orleans this week. OK so reality check, it is a car under 25k. So its not like your driving in luxury, but if you value performance over floating down the highway this car is for you.

VERY fun to drive. Disappointed that the wagon doesnt have the same curves / lines on the body as the sedan. ABS too sensitive. Downshifting usually helps... ABS sucks if youre trying to eat an ice cream cone or something though - really is too sensitive - esp. on bumpy roads. Love the car though.. I guess the one thing I would change (and Ive been putting it off) is the ABS. Still havent found affordable fog light covers either.

This is one sweet automobile. Besides the incredible rush from stomping on the accelerator anywhere above 3,000 rpm and the tenacious grip of the glue- like tires, this cars ergonomics are first rate. Everything is very logically laid out and works just right. No space age climate controls or any such thing. Just a greatly functional interior that makes driving a pleasure. You really owe it to yourself to test drive this car if youre in the market. Where else can you get this incredible performance, including AWD and legendary Subaru reliability for slightly more than a loaded Accord? Its incredible!

Excellent performance while going through the bends on the mountain roads near Yosemite. Cant really enjoy the performance on regular roads - too much slow moving traffic! Cool to turn 90 degree corners while driving at 45mph :)

  • This car is AWESOME! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Hands down, awesome car, even with two small children, plenty of room (between a Civic and an Accord in terms of rear, more like an Accord in everything else). Swallows up the pavement. Definitely get rid of the RE92 (stock tires). Awesome handling, awesome acceleration, awesome price!

  • suits MY style of driving - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I own 2 Subarus. My #1 concern was RELIABILITY. I have 139,645 miles on this vehicle and not once has it left me stranded. I umpire college softball so it is important that I be there ON TIME. My Subaru operates the way I do, aggressive, no let up, always there on time. I love to drive this car ... especially during inclement weather. I have kept track of EVERY penny associated with the ownership of this vehicle. We are currently operating at just under 26 cents per mile.

  • Great Performance Car - 2002 Subaru Impreza

This is a great car. Handles great even at its absolute limit. Quality is second to none and the fit and finish are excellent. This car is a performance oriented car that is made to handle brilliantly and be a fun car to drive. It is not a luxury car and if that is what you are looking for pass the WRX buy, but is you know what you are getting into this is a great package.

The fun factor rating on this car should be well over 10...This is my first subaru and I have had it for 3 weeks and what a blast I am having driving this car...For all you car enthusiasts who havent driven one yet, you must try...I work for a car dealership and have driven many cars and besides exotics most cars dont come close to this car in the fun factor...Recently placed 3rd at the Long Island Custom Car Show with this vehicles

  • Its not just for kids! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Having owned Imprezas since 1996, I was expecting a faster, but no more refined, car in the WRX. Surprise! The WRX is much smoother and quieter than its less sporty predecessors. At first the controls felt too light, and the seat felt too hard, but after a long drive I feel quite fresh. The turbo lag is not very noticeable except at high altitude with the AC running. Then you need to coordinate clutch and throttle with finesse. Reports of lousy mileage are due to test drive behavior; Im averaging 23- 26, and I drive fast but efficiently. Coolest experience? Going up to Donner Pass (7,200 feet) at half throttle in fifth gear at 70-80mph.
