The 2006 Scion xB receives a new steering wheel with audio controls, and the Pioneer audio system has a new head unit design and remote mini-jack port for portable music sources. Additionally, the xB wagon offers dedicated Apple iPod connectivity, which delivers iPod display information and allows unit control and recharging through the audio system. In other news, the xB's horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103 due to new SAE testing procedures.

Pros:

I traded in a 2004 Jeep Liberty (avg. 17 mpg) for a 2006 Scion xB for better gas mileage. So far, we are averaging 28 to 30 mpg for around town driving, and it costs so little to fill the tank. The only downside to this car is you feel every bump in the road, I would not recommend it if you have back problems. Also, our insurance company rates it as an SUV, not as a wagon. So if you buy one check out how much it will cost to insure it. We are happy with this car and would buy another one!

Though Ive only had this car for a few months, Ive taken it on five 800 mile trips (13-14 hours each). The car is very comfortable. I only wish I has sprung for the cruise control. It is very fuel efficient (30 mpg), yet less powerful than my 94 Ford Mustang, but for what I save in gas I wouldnt even consider complaining. The back seat is extremely roomy; everyone is surprised by how spacious the entire car is. I wanted a inexpensive and fuel-efficient vehicle that would be able to fit some cargo without any problems, and this is it. I like that this "toaster oven on wheels" looks different. If you are concerned about style, get the wheel upgrade, it really makes the car look nice.

When I first saw the Scion xB I thought it was a cheap and not that good looking of a car. Then the guy at the dealer told me not to put down the car untill you drive it, so I did and ended driving it home. I have been driving my Scion for four mounths and now I love it. It offers plenty of space, a good stereo system and the comfort of higher priced cars. I also love the fact that you can customize the car to however you want it. This car has been a good investment for me.

Bought my xB a year ago with 28K miles on it. Pure stock with automatic. Driving around the Northern VA/DC area averaging 32-33mpg, max mpg was a trip between NVA and Williamsburg - 38mpg. Ride is OK for a small car, handling fantastic. Keep the RPMs around 3K and your mpg will be great (that will give you 70mph on the highway). I call it my mini-truck. Hauls a LOT of stuff. I plan on running until it dies! Maintenance costs are a bit stiff if you follow the book and go to the dealer, but overall a fantastic little car.

  • More than I expected ... - 2006 Scion XB

I got the xB release model. It is really a head turner as well a a car that is fun to drive. I am a high mileage commute driver and for the money this is a hard car to beat. The gas mileage I have received has exceeded the Scion sticker numbers on every tank of gas I have pumped. With the five speed manual transmission, the power seems to be more than enough to get me to and from work. With my previous USA car, I had to constantly downshift to get over the hills or merge into freeway traffic. With my xB I just leave it in fifth gear and climb hills or enter freeways easily. I love my xB and would recommend that all commuters give it a good look. Great car for the money.

  • Love My xB - 2006 Scion XB

I just bought my Scion xB because I wanted better gas mileage than my 14 mpg SUV. I love the interior space and couldnt bear to buy a compact car. The exterior and interior design is great, and the xB is suprisingly quick from a stop. Second and third gear are a bit sluggish, but at cruising speed it will keep up with anything on the freeway. Its ride is very smooth and quiet. The A/C works great on mine, and I am in 115 degree heat in Palm Springs in the summer. The interior could use a few small tweaks, but is overall satisfactory. The low price makes the xB a fantastic value, and mine is getting around 32 mpg on 2/3 freeway and 1/3 city driving. I hope more accessories come out soon!

The Scion xB was meant to be for the younger generation, but it appears that a good number of older folks are finding it to be quite the car. The gas mileage does not lie. We get 31-32 mpg in town and 33-34 hwy. This car has plenty of zip to merge onto freeways. It has lots of glass and and it easy to see out of. All of the glass except for the windshield can be cleaned by standing outside. Sometimes the rear window is a bear to get to. The back seats lay down to allow more cargo space. We like to think of it as a poor mans SUV. One thing Ive found odd is that most used xBs seem to cost more than the new ones. Maybe that is because they have more extras when bought new.

Overall, I have had no buyers remorse after purchasing this car. Its truly an engineering marvel considering how small it looks from the outside in comparison to how big it is on the inside. The exterior had to grow on me for awhile before purchasing it, but after seeing the inside I was sold. Buyers beware: if you are expecting some high performance, high-end vehicle, you should not purchase this car. The small 4-cylinder engine does have trouble in passing and uphill situations. The interior is basic, yet very functional. So far I have not yet achieved the estimated gas mileage (about 28 mpg in mixed city and highway driving).

Bought this car new and not one trip back to the dealership since. Very Reliable, comfortable, and fun to drive. Consistently getting 28-30 mpg. No problem with the windshield like some posts had mentioned. No problem with anything whatsoever. A/C works good even in the hot days.

Bought for 1) gas mileage and 2) interior room has been reliable - 2 warranty issues were automatic door locks sticking and dvd player not working. Only complaint is rough ride and road noise. I bought the year "special model" w/ dvd, I-pod package. Great price for reliable car.
