This Year's Model Updates:

A new 3.5-liter V6 replaces the previous 3.0-liter unit. Larger 17-inch wheels and tires are now standard on the V6 AWD model and optional on the front-wheel-drive version. Antilock brakes are standard on all V6 models. The interior has been upgraded to reduce noise and now incorporates metallic and leather trim. The front seats now have seatbelt pre-tensioners and dual-stage front airbags. New entertainment choices include MP3-compatible CD players, satellite radio and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system (late availability).

Pros:
  • Strong V6, large doors ease entry/exit, spacious cabin, comfortable ride, excellent crash test scores, good fuel economy.
Cons:
  • Bland interior, low-grade plastics, inconsistent build quality, noisy four-cylinder, vague steering.

This vehicle will be great as long as you have warranty coverage left, but that isnt very long. There is no extended powertrain coverage and the major system problems start at about 45,000 miles. In less than 50,000 miles, the entire hydraulic system for the clutch went out ($1,500) and parts are increadibly tough to get. It took almost a week to get repaired even though the work only took a day after the dealership got the parts in.

We tested the 6 at first, then the 4. If you need to race other parents home from soccer practice - the 6 is wicked.... Hence we sought practicality - landed the 4. Although it does not have the same cargo room as the Jimmy, the pasenger room is definitely larger, especially the front seating area, waist and head room. The ride is more stable than the Jimmy, especially in curves. The four cylinder is not bad. I especially enjoy the gas milage - I cant believe the needle doesnt move when I step on the pedal. My VUE is equipped with a sun roof, power package, floor mats, cloth int., CD - 6 speaker, and exterior mold accents on the lower quarter.

  • Loving it So Far - 2004 Saturn VUE

I was pretty much set on an Escape-my sister has one and I liked it well enough. Then I read an article on Honda motor in the Vue. Then I went and drove one. Wow, much more car than the Escape and I could get one about the same price. Wanted the Red Line because of articles, but in reality thought it added nothing. Guess I dont drive quite as wild as reviewers. Everbody comments it is much nicer than they had imagined. It rides great, comfortable over our bad Nashville streets, fast enough to merge with confidence. I think the interior is getting a bad rap for previous years. I will say the tan looks much better than the grey.

  • piece of JUNK! - 2004 Saturn VUE

This car has less than 43,000 miles. It seems every time I turn around something has to be fixed. A/C went out twice, "small leak" in emission control 4 times, power windows stopped working, valve job, sway bars and struts had to be replaced, master cylinder and slave cylinder on clutch had to be replaced. Ive spent more on repairs than the car is worth. Pass the word - Saturn is very unreliable. If you have deep pockets and enjoy spending a lot of time with the service department (and being without a car for days at a time for repairs)this might be the car for you. Ill never buy another American car! Not surprised theyre going out of business.

  • I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SUV!!! - 2004 Saturn VUE

Never in a million years would I have seen myself in an SUV. I was always the person saying "Ill be driving a CAR for life!" But the Saturn VUE changed my mind. This SUV is not only fun to drive, but its affordable, gets GREAT gas milage, and the insurrance is relatively cheap. This SUV is a vast improvment from my Dodge. But this SUV still provides all the comforts of a car. Ive driven some SUVs before that feel tipsy (Chevy Blazer). THIS SUV IS AMAZING! Tons of standard features plus many more available at a decent price. This SUV not only has a great reputation, but is the ONLY SUV you should consider!!!!

Had brand new vue for one week in shop for four problems .I Had up to 1500 miles to trade out for another brand new vue. Dealer was very nice about this problem. Secound brand new vue I had for three days and its been in shop already for empty clutch fluid. Poor craftsmanship would not recommend this vehicle.

  • CRV Killer - 2004 Saturn VUE

Having worked at Honda dealers for 18 years, when I decided to buy an SUV I naturally looked at the CRV and Pilot. The Pilot was too expensive and bigger than what I wanted and the CRV seemed underpowered to me. I looked at Nissan and Toyota but didnt find anything that was comfortable, reasonably priced and had some power. I read that the Saturn vue V6 was powered by a Honda 3.5 liter engine which I was familiar with as it is the same engine in the Odessy and Pilot. It only took one test drive for me to fall in love with this SUV. I have been driving mine now for over four years and just love it. I am a large guy and I am very comfortable on short or long drives.
