This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

  • great 2nd car..Love it! - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my 2002 Pathfinder on a whim 2 years ago when I had my Mercedes in for service. Other than the questionable gas mileage, the car is perfect. Very reliable, comfortable and plenty of power for my needs. I loved the way it looked and the amenities are awesome for car of its age. I only paid $9k for it with 72k miles and it was and is in excellent condition. Although we will keep primary cars which get better mileage, I plan to keep the Pathfinder in my fleet for as long as it will have me. So far, so good.

  • Pathfinders great except for fuel cost - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is sporty yet classy. It has quick acceleration, is easy to manuever, has great visability, comfort, style, reliability, is not too big, yet can carry a lot of cargo, and is fun to drive. Two cons only: I only get 17 miles per gallon in the city, and the CD player, which has been replaced once by Nissan, is very finicky. Other than that....it is an AWESOME vehicle.

  • what a blast! - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought a superblack se 4wd w/options: s94, l92, f95 & go5. Paid $210 over CR wholesale price, $1200 under invoice. Took the $1k cash back. Test-drove the envoy, trailblazer, 4 runner, montero... Envoy – nice if you like driving a couch, trailblazer – piece of @#*!. the rest were nice. If you want performance buy a pathfinder. Torque – you got it! Pounces off the line. DOHC v-6 can definitely get it out of its own way. Engine braking – great. Rides nice (it’s a suv, its going to lean a little bit in a turn, buy a porsche if you want handling). im 65" 280 and i fit nice. do yourself a favor and test drive them all and make your choice. i did and picked the pathfinder - what a blast!

Excellent all-around performer with a very potent engine. First-class reliability. It could use improvement in fuel efficiency.

  • good car! - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Exellent SUV choice. Good power, nice, if dated ergonomics, pure exterior design, nice leather. Very quiet interior at highway speeds. Everything about this rig instills quality, solid feel. My only complaint is the numb, no feel steering - my wifes 2001Mazda Tribute, although not nearly as refined-feeling as the Pathfinder, is much more fun to drive. That car has also excellent power (200 hp), which it uses well since the Mazda is substantially lighter. I think they are equal off the line, seat-of- the-pants assesment. Anyway, the Pathfinder is roomier than Toyota 4-Runner and probably the best value for the $$$. Go try one, you will like it.

Only 1000 miles on it so far. Excellent SUV. Very sporty and smooth.

  • Solid Truck for the Money - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Purchased in 6/04 with 20K for half of original sticker. Fully loaded with every option besides navigation. Have been pleased with the overall performance, very reliable. Gas mileage is terrible like most SUVs. Styling is great, fit and finish has held up nicely. Back seat is not the best for entry or overall room. Some scratches on fender flares from automatic car wash. Only issues: drivers power seat broke around 40K, they wanted $600 for repair. 2 oxygen sensors replaced and tailpipe joint cracked. Had sleeved at meineke for $25. Original bridgestones wear quickly, replaced with Pirelli scorpions.

  • nice, but not as good as a trail blazer - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my son a pathfinder a few months ago, because he was set on it, and would not even look at anything else. It is a nice suv, and i like what they have done with the engine, but it does not measure up to trail blazer i bought for me. i have not ever been a chevy fan, but the TB runs circles around his pathfinder. it has more power, room, stnd. features, better build quality, rear a/c, and costs less. i would recommend test driving both before deciding.

  • Has been as advertised - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased my 02 Pathfinder LE w/36k miles a year ago. Traded a BMW 3 series because we needed something a little bigger. Did not want another "new" car note so pursued 02 and 03 Pathfinder, QX4, or 4-Runner. Narrowed to these 3 after reading multiple reviews on this site. I now have 53K on it and knock on wood have had no issues. Pathfinder has great pickup for an SUV and is easy to drive in town and comfortable on the highway. At 1/2 the cost of a new one I have been very pleased with this vehicle and would recommend it.
