This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

Ive had my pathfinder for about a month now and i love it. The only downside that i can think of would be the gas mileage. Other than that my frieds love it since i put the DVD entertainment system in it. I have had no problems with my pathfinder so far and i hope it will continue to be that way. So to whoever is looking for a awsome midsize SUV this should definitely be on your list

  • 7 years and still going - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought new in 02. Have had to put very little money in it even with 125000+ miles. Drove it like I stole it in NC Beaches, Western MD Snow, and torrential downpouring T storms. This thing can handle the abuse. Well worth the money and cant see trading it in anytime soon. CD Changer is temperamental, has some CDs hostage now, but overall I cant complain.

I cant complain about the car itself, I know it would consume a lot of gas. Dont buy an SUV if you think you will compete with a Corolla. Nissan Sales and Service is not the greatest, but hopefully you wont have to spend much time with them, the less the better. A great car for a little too high price, but I am still happy with it.

  • Fun to Drive but tight for big guys. - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

The 2002 Pathfinder is definitely fun to drive, especially with the newer and more powerfull engine. I have a 4WD LE with everything except the entertainment unit and Navigation system. The drive is smooth, comfortable and fun. The only drawback is the lack of head room, which decreases about another 1 to 1 1/2 inches with the moon roof. Its very tight for anyone over 6.

  • A great knockaround vehicle - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Love this SUV. A smooth ride that could induce car-sickness, a powerful engine, and conveniently-placed and thought-out controls make the car a gem. With regular all-season tires, holds the road in ice and snow, and stops on a dime if youre not driving like a drunken banshee. While 4WD can be taxing on tires, the Bridgestones wore out much too quickly - and were vulnerable to shoulder wear despite frequent rotation and balancing. Depending on driver height and seat position, blind spots (merging, etc.) can be a problem - encourage all your family members to test-drive before you buy.

The interior options sold us. Excellent sound system and leather interior. Very well thought out displays. Very powerful 6 cylinder engine. Larger body than I expected, but still manageable. Not much price negotiation, (I guess its popular enough that the dealer doesnt have to negotiate much.)

  • Like my PF LE but... - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Love the size of the PF as its l&w are comparable to most midsize cars. Acceleration is good. Steering is secure. Handling great with the AUTO feature. Fun to fishtail in RWD mode. The interior is better than other non- luxury SUVs. It gets bouncy. Some squeaks and rattles, but most fixed. Nissan Customer service is poor. Consider a 1 year old Infiniti, especially in LA, where name plates count. Also the warranty is 1 year longer and the service is excellent

  • SUV satisfaction - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

We got the full 4-square treatment, but still paid close to Edmunds TMV at the time (around 30k). We have had very few problems and mechanically have had to just do the usual oil changes and regular service. My wife is the main driver of this vehicle and she was dead set on getting an SUV. We looked around at a number of them - Jimmy (unsupportive seats and mushy handling), Tahoe (too big), Passport (buzzy interior), Cherokee (this one was used and too old) - and found what we wanted in the Pathfinder.

I like this SUV very dependable, the feel seem to me that Im safe while driving this Suv during any kind of weather. I dont thank that can be said about other Suv.

  • Its an "OK" SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Purchased this vehicle used. The cd player stopped working after 6 mos. The dealer wants to charge $500 for a new player. The drive is smooth, only on a smooth road; otherwise, when we hit a bump it feels like im about to be thrown out of the vehicle. Passenger leg-room is limited. Very convient to have the radio controls on the steering wheel, bcuz the radio is hard to reach while driving. Good cargo space when the seats are folded down. The SUV is very durable, and stylish.
