This Year's Model Updates:

SE models now include a manual-shift mode for the CVT, and satellite radio pre-wiring is standard on all models. The standard driver seat now features 10-way power adjustment.

Pros:
  • Excellent handling, comfortable and practical interior, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • Continuously variable transmission detracts from performance, SE model rides harshly, no third-row seat, gets pricey with options.

In 2002,my husband and I were in California visiting my brother when he saw a commercial advertising the then- to-come Nissan Murano. It was at that point he became infatuated with the car and talked constantly about test driving it and owning it. Well, last year, we were in the market for a new vehicle and we went to the dealership to take a test drive. We were both very impressed with the vehicle, and a year later, we are still impressed. Next year, we hope to drive across country to Denver, Washington,DC, and California.

Milage has been at 18-19 in mainly city driving. Blast to drive - comfortable, fairly quiet, great handling. Nobody makes a better V-6 than Nissan. CVT trans has been great - do not really see a big detraction from performance because of it like some claim.

Bought the car 8/12/04 SL,Silver,AWD,Touring with NAV,leather,VDC,crossbars, etc. Navigation is fun. I like the fact you can adjust certain features of the electronics from the NAV. The car handles great. Still getting used to CVT (sound a little bit too louud). My friend has 03 Max SE - much quieter engine sound. I like the modern combo of aluminum and plastic (though for $33K+ I expected something more classier). BOSE sounds good, but the sound is strange (sounds as if I am in the empty room - too much echo -- though this is my 1st SUV, maybe thats how stereos sound in them. After delivery complaints: Left headlight shines lower, stearing wheel crooked

  • Murano at 230k miles - 2004 Nissan Murano

The murano has been in the family since new. this SUV is made well, but it cans be abused. It has good cargo space. it is comfortable and strong. Cvt tranmission shifts well but it requires high maintenance(CVT fluid is over $20 per Quart, and the vehicle may have acceleration issues if the fluid is slightly low). It still runs on original engine and original transmission. It runs and drives well, however it started to burn oil( I have been using 20W/50 grade oil since 175k to reduce oil consumption). Engine is super quite when idles. All motor mounts, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, power steering pressure line, and radiator went bad before hitting 180k. Doing the work myself, I saved a lot. I work on cars a lot, and I have to tell you that working on Muranos are very hard because of design. Replacement parts are usually more expensive compare hondas. As it was stated by other owners, sun visors are made cheap as well as leather on armrest. It tows well. Engine and muffler sound sporty when rpm goes high.

  • Really fun to drive - 2004 Nissan Murano

Having looked at several SUVs (both actual SUVs and crossovers) including the Toyota 4 Runner, Highlander, Lexus RX330, and Infiniti FX35 I found the Murano the absolute best bang for the buck. It offers more cool features (power adjustable seats, memory seating, Homelink systsem, Tire presuure monitors and on and on...) for the money than any of the other cars and it is extremely fun to drive. For an SUV this car handles like a sports car... tight steering and enough get up and go to keep you smiling through the turns.

  • 1500 Miles problems already - 2004 Nissan Murano

I have 1500 miles on my Murano and four problems already! A pillar is rattling, drivers seat shifts during acel/decel, gas door actuator buzzing, alignment off. Took it back to the dealer and they can only fix 2 of the four problems. Technical service bulltins were given to them and still they cant duplicate the problem. Nissan/Infiniti has lost a customer for life. This car has alot of stupid little problems.

  • I would highly recommend!! - 2004 Nissan Murano

Exterior design is awesome! Interior is holding up very well. Vehicle has been very dependable for over 5 years. I love my Murano even after over 140,000 miles. Vehicle has not been perfect, but all things considered, thumbs up! Muranos are notorious for having front suspension issues, wheel bearings, etc... After 8 years, expect it, its not too bad. Other minor issues, cable for tail gate had to be replaced. Shocks had to be replaced. Thats about it :)

  • A Dream Come True - 2004 Nissan Murano

I LOVE this SUV. Wanted one for 2 years and I still pinch myself each time I walk up to it. Good acceleration, good ride (SE)! Corners and drives like a sports car, but will go through 14" inches of snow and climb curbs if needed. Bose radio is outstanding. Heated seats great in winter. Adjustable pedals and seat make it comfortable for short (53") women to drive and dont have to hop into it. Super vehicle. NOT DISAPPOINTED at all!
