This Year's Model Updates:

The base E320 is replaced with the E350 for 2006. The new model name indicates a new engine -- a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp, a 20-percent increase from the previous E320.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedan and wagon models.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • You had me with the test drive - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is truly a driving machine. I will never buy another brand again. This is my second benz and believe me...it is top of the line. City driving stinks but on the highway it is fuel friendly. If you love a smooth ride with Lux, this is the car for you...smooth riding my friend.

  • Nav system is an antique - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The E320 CDI is very fuel efficient and fun to drive, but the transmission has occassional problems. Slipping during takeoff which my dealer says is normal. Styling is rather bland. Seats could stand to be a little more comfortable. The lumbar support should be power and easier to reach. My biggest complaint is the antique nav system. Somebody must have bought these on a $59 closeout. Charging $2900 for this system should be a felony. Its an unbelievably antiquated system with few features, no touch screen, and no voice command. Also theres no bluetooth unless you buy their phone. I own a 2007 Toyota Camry that blows this car away with superior luxury features. Sorry MB, you need to catch up

  • Best Car for the Buck - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This being my first MB I will focus on my reaction to car now that I have owned it for a month. All I can say is wow. What a nicely built, very solid, comfortable and fun to drive car. I test drove, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Infiniti, Acura and some of the lesser import brands but the E350 is bar far the best mix off all. The stunner is when you push your foot down on the gas and the car hauls to 60 in less that 6.5 secs. Even better is when you hit a corner and there is 0 wheel squeal. Return the car to center at a cruising speed of 70 MPH and its sublime. Simply put, this car fits my image. A bit reserved, but push it and the wild side comes out, but returns to civility just as quickly.

  • E320 CDI Rocks - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Have owned BWM, Volkswagen, and Volvo vehicles. This MB is by far the best in terms of build qulity, ride, and engineering. This is my first diesel, so Im hoping for a huge improvement over my current SUV (16 mpg). The design is timeless and the car feels like it will go hundreds of thousands of miles.

  • MB E350 sedan - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Turned back from Audi to Mercedes and I do not regret it. I was hunting for the right car for a while...I found it in this MB. It is the absolute pleaser in every possible ways. Ride, comfort, appearance are all in balance. I dont think you could go wrong with this car.

  • 2006 E320 CDI - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I did a lot of research and realized that the I-6 CDI motor was one for the ages. Iron block, naturally balanced, dependable and durable. I had to purchase a "pre-owned" 2006 since I live in the great state of California. I arrived and I could not be happier. My father has owned many MB cars over the years, this CDI is as close to a perfect car as he and I can imagine. It is the perfect size, seats 5, it has outstanding acceleration and curising speed capability and I got 35 MPG over a 226 mile trip (including several acceleration runs). On that 226 mile trip I used just a smidge over 1/4 of the tank. The range left is 400 miles. I am looking forward to this car for years to come.

  • Dissapointed - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

First and last Mercedes. In less than 2 years of ownership car had many major problems. AWD had to be repaired. Power Steering repaired, intermittent wiper replacement. At 25,000 mile service (which cost $600) was told tires were wearing and would need to be replaced soon! The transmission is sluggish .. going uphill it doesnt shift properly. Fairly noisy drive. Handling is good and interior comfortable. Trunk size is also good. AWD (when working) is great on icy roads. Overall will go back to BMW.

  • Nice, but not a Lexus - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Ive way more issues with the 06 than my old E55 (2002 W210 E55) although, yes, the 2006 is a rocketship in comparison. MB has lost the "tank like" build quality of the older cars, and doesnt seem to care what the buyer endures as far as problems, but the car is scary fast, and is still the best 4 door hot rod money can buy. Get the build quality up to Lexus standards, and there will be no room for BMW in this market.

  • Excellent - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Bought the E320 CDI to replace 04 BMW 530i. The difference in quality are amazing, for a $50k+ car the BMW is cheap and tacky inside. MB feels like it costs a lot more. Fuel consumption made me get the diesel, after test- driving both the gas and the diesel. The torque is stunning. Averaging 33mpg combined so far.

  • Poor driving feel - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This is a handsome car but the interior trim is not well thought out. The door sills are a light colored fabric that is impossible to keep clean. They should have trimmed with leather or plastic that could be wiped off. The handling on an uneven road or with a small crosswind is poor. One must continually adjust the steering wheel to keep it on the road. Doesnt compare to my 1992 LS400. It feels like a small light sedan. The DVD furnished with the navigation system is out of date and incomplete. I asked it for the nearest hospital and it directed me to one 77 miles away when there were 3 good ones less than 30 miles away, one within a mile.
