Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

• More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  I love this car. After owning it for 2.5 years, its been in the shop once, for an oil change. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong. A very fast car with just the right balance between race car performance/handling and luxury tourist. Gas mileage on the highway going 75 mph with A/C on around 27 mpg and city around 16 mpg which is amazing considering the large fast engine.

  I couldnt be more pleased with this auto. The advanced sound, control, navigation and safety features make this one of the best MBs Ive ever owned. A good value for the dollar.

  I can not believe the power this vehicle has...much more than the 320e. Hope this diesel lasts the fourteen plus years and over 200,000 miles of the last one owned. You cant beat a diesel engine...now it is combined with luxury!!

  Solid German tank - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  Our family has owned three MB diesels, one reaching 530K miles (Ford truck hit it, o/w would still be driving it). Safety was our primary reason for puchase, along with MB durability. This Benz is typical solidity, heft ad assurance. There is some diesel grunt to the engine,but at 80 mph, its actually quiter tha the gasoline sister. Torque is breath taking.

  This is my second E Class, and Im spoiled rotten. When you compare price vs. features and quality on other cars, the "base" E Class is a terrific value. Turning circle comparable to my kids Jeep Wrangler.

  What a Car! First Benz and am regretting didnt step up years ago. Genuine pleasure to drive, quiet in and out. Average fuel economy since start 30.3 mpg at average city/hiway speed of 53 mph. 0-60 in less than 7 sec., plenty of torque, incredible for a diesel. Would recommend this car to all.

  I love the E class but sometimes its hard to fit in it becuse Im 610 in height. I love the luxsury of the car but I wish it went faster I would love to bring my E 500 down to the track but I cant.

  The 2005 E-320 4Matic has exceeded our expectations as a safe, stylish, comfortable automobile. Our harsh Maine winter showed us the value of the advanced lighting (bi-xenon), traction controls, excellent visibility and clean clothing as a result of the automatic trunk closure. The heated steering wheel was a safety feature during sub-zero temperatures, eliminating the need for bulky gloves for driving. As prior owners of the last 3 E Class styles, we feel the 2005 model is a cohesive step forward in style, safety and amenities over its predecessor.

  My E-320 handles very smoothly on wet roads, snow covered roads, and under normal conditions with regard to acceleration, maneuvering in and out of traffic, and stopping ability. It is the best car I have had as to smooth "shifting". On a recent trip of over 1000 miles I averaged 26.2/miles per gallon with an average speed of 64 miles per hour.
