This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

Me and my wife just purchased a Jeep Patriot. We were looking a a Toyota 4- Runner and a Nissan Murano, previously but by mistake we pulled into the Jeep lot. So we got out and looked at the Patriots. After test driving it and talking with the salesman about it we ended up making the purchase. we get about 23 mpg and for an SUV thats pretty good. We got it for approximately $21,000. We love it it drives great you have plenty of room. We purchased it because we have a baby on the way and it has plenty of safety features. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for a SUV with a smaller budget like us.

  • Really Impressed with this New Jeep - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I just purchased a Patriot-traded my 05 Xterra after it started leaking oil at 23K. Really like the Patriot-great combo of family utility, 4WD, and roominess for a reasonable price. Impressed with the sticker gas mileage. Was able to get a moonroof, outside temp guage and tire pressure monitor for under 21K. Im really glad Jeep still offers a 5 speed. So tired of getting auto trannys crammed down my throat! Jeep offers a lot of bang for the buck-for those who want a roomy family friendly 4WD, take one for a test drive-youll be suprised! I couldnt believe all of the features it has for the money. Cant beat the lifetime powertrain warrenttee. Extending the bumper 2 bumper isnt 2 expensive

  • Affordable, Reliable, Efficient - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Ive had the Patriot for a few months and absolutely love it. I bartered down big time, so they gave me a very BASIC package but Im not looking for luxury. I drive 80 miles round trip to work, daily, and couldnt be happier. My AVERAGE mileage has been 30+ MPG. Throw in the lifetime FULL warranty, Im comforted by the fact if anything busts, its covered (well worth the exta few bucks a month). Rides great, TONS of room (Im 61 and dont even have the seat all the way back easily can handle someone even taller). Plan on easily adding on features later DIY transmission cooler and hitch, can tow 2000 lbs.

  • Best chrysler ever (Jeep dealer Svc Mgr) - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I have a Patriot with 60 K on it, front and rear brake pads are not even close to needing replacement. The svc mgr at the dealer says he has never done a brake job on a patriot. The maintenance cost is very low, mine is well under a penny a mile so far. The first set of good years went 55000 miles, so add a penny a mile for tires. Gas mileage is a solid 30 mpg with and that is the combined. The svc mgr at dealer claims these are amazingly problem free. The car has a life time warranty on the drive train, it sounds like everything else should hold up well, so I hope to have this for a long time. You can add a cruise control for about $350.

  • Everyone loves riots - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Ive had a wrangler for 6 years and loved every minute of it. However, just like everyone else loosing money at the pump, i needed something a little more gpm friendly. Depressed, i looked at sedans and small trucks until i saw the riot. i did cartwheels as the dealer told me i could have the fuel eco i wanted and still parade around in my American build 4 banger with teeth.

  • Totaled it and not a scratch - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Bought it on 3-30 (traded in a Dodge Ram) and totaled it on 5-6. Bounced off guard rail at 65 mph and did not have a single scratch. Has to say something about safety. We love this car so much that we are buying another one today.

  • So far I love it. - 2008 Jeep Patriot

We bought the FDII 4x4. We wanted a 4x4 that was good on fuel. The Toyota FJ was the only other that looked like it could handle off road but it was way too expensive.

  • MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH WATER LEAKS - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Owned this vehicle 1 1/2 years now, 17,000, miles. No issue except water leaks. Sunroof leaked and Rear Dome Light still leaks. My 08 Patriot is at the dealers now and has been there for two weeks. Water leak at rear dome light. This is the fifth time at the dealers. Dealer has no idea where it leaks. They even took it to a body shop. I filed a complaint with Chrysler they been putting me off. Still waiting and trying to get them to buy it back since it is still under warranty. I am passed the lemon law date in VA. Anything older than 18 months is to late to file a lemon law claim. I would think twice before buying a Patriot. This vehicle has major issues with water leaks.

  • Jeep Patriot not what I expected - 2008 Jeep Patriot

My 5 speed tranny began to grind at 400 miles. There was a TSB by Jeep and as per, my dealer changed the synchronizers in the tranny. At 7200 miles, no more problems. Squeaking in the passenger seat also covered by a TSB. The dealer performed the "fix" but there is still a squeak. I tracked it down to a seat belt anchor rubbing on a large bolt. My gas mileage around town is about 16mpg. This from a 4 cylinder 5 speed manual! My first foray into an American car since I gave up my 61 Impala. Never again. The quality control just aint there

  • Great Vehicle - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Ive been driving the Patriot for 3 months and 5000 miles and so far have been very pleased. Gas mileage is around 25 mpg combined which is amazing compared to the 16 mpg I was previously getting from an old pathfinder. Very good vehicle for the price. There are a few areas for Chrysler to improve this car but for a vehicle that has only been on the market for a couple years, its fantastic. Would recommend to anyone who wants an affordable SUV that is fun to drive good on gas.
