This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

  • Wonderful buy - 2008 Jeep Patriot

This Jeep is wonderful - I traded in a honda accord for it because of the extra room but I still needed great gas mileage. I am getting 25 miles to the gallon in this jeep. Interior room is great and the exterior looks really nice. Great buy for my money. I will be holding on to this one for a while. I like the fact that it came in a 4 cylinder - that really helps with the high price of gas today.

Bought the 2008 Patriot Sport 4x4 2.4L CVT automatic brand new. About a month into owning it we noticed water coming in and collecting in the front courtesy light lens after it had rained the night before. We realized this when we hit the brakes to stop and water poured out onto dash and soaked us both. Took it to the dealer and of course the dealer could not duplicate the problem. This was the first of 4 trips to the dealer for this problem. The 2nd time they said it was the sunroof leaking so they replaced it. The 3rd time it had to go back they FINALLY dropped the headliner and let a hose run on it all day to find the leak. still leaks to this day and now its out of warranty..

  • Love it, but.initial build quality is ? - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I thought the Patriot was well-equipped for the price so I purchased one last week. I was very happy with my purchase for the first 24 hours, but I would soon discover the lift gate does not lock. Patriot lift gates only lock electronically (no keyhole). The dealership discovers the factory installed the wrong wiring and the dealer doesnt have the part. That requires a second trip. Of course, Chrysler/Jeep doesnt reimburse you for the fuel you burn or your time you spend fixing their factory mistake. They gave me a loaner car for 24 hrs (which is cool) but you have to refill the tank upon return (not cool). Seriously, Jeep(or the dealer) needs to step up more if you find a defect on day one.

  • So Far So Good - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Was looking for a small SUV. My wife and daughter both drive Honda CR-Vs. I was looking for something a little different. I found it in the Jeep Patriot. Drives very nice and is loaded with features. Love the Satellite Radio. Drives very smoothly and feels well built. I have a little over 3000 miles on it and no rattles or noises. Getting about 25 - 26 miles per gallon. Not bad for a 4X4 automatic. I am pleased with my Jeep!

  • 1-year Patriot review - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Just passed a year since I bought a 2008 Jeep Patriot with 2.4-l, 5-speed manual. I have put 9700 miles on it, probably 70% city driving and 30% towing my fishing boat, a 16-foot boat weighing about 900 lbs. During this time, my grand average MPG has been 28.3. I have only driven out of the city twice without the boat in tow, and both times my MPG has been over 30. My worst tank of gas was in December during near-record snowfall when I was running a lot of third gear, and got 25.9 MPG. There have been no automotive problems with the vehicle. It has good heat and good A/C. The underside of the car looks very good after one winter.

  • Almost perfect - 2008 Jeep Patriot

If the front seats were built better, this would be the perfect vehicle. It is the perfect size, gets about 25 mpg which is good for a 4wd, has great visibility, and well designed flexibility in loading the interior. It is a real blast to drive, and getting used to the CVT transmission didnt take as long as I expected. So far, I have not discovered any factory defects and this Jeep really seems tight - no squeaks or rattles. This is built much better than other Chrysler products that I have owned. However, the front seats are thinly padded over a hard shell. There are no springs and, consequently, no give in the seats. Bumps telescope directly to your spine through your tail bone.

  • I got a Lemon - 2008 Jeep Patriot

While driving on the freeway it moves, I think its out of alignment; it almost wants to fish tail. As I start to press on the bake it makes a noise, not only that it makes a clank sound underneath. I took it back to have it serviced, but it still moves, suddenly it pulls to the right. This is not a safety car.

  • Tight fit for infant seats - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

I have driven this car for 18 months. I have had no problems to date. It handles very well in snow, rain, and muddy dirt roads. Fuel economy is around 24-25, but decreases significantly with anything on the roof. I just installed two infant seats and barely fit them in. I am 510" and had to pull the seat 1 click forward from my usual position to fit them in. If you have long legs and plan on adding a car seat, buy different car.

  • Ball joints - 2008 Jeep Patriot

At the mechanic right now. They say the ball joints have play. The stabilizer was loose, makes rattle noise on bumps. $250 repair bill, only two years old and 45k miles.
