Overview & Reviews
Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.
- Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
- Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

To The Head ... - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By Angie T. - September 20 - 3:16 pmRecently purchased Pat 4X4 and so far so good... I dont get the folks that wrote disparaging remarks referencing this units 4X4 capabilities! I took our Pat 4x4 straight out on to Oregon Inlet @ N.C. Outer Banks and drove through the thick sand like spreading butter without taking a pound of pressure out of any tires (Its recommended to lower tire PSI to 20 before attempting to traverse through the thick sandy beaches). In my opinion all I can say regarding the Jeep Patriot 4X4 off roading capability is that all 4X4s are limited by physics; however, the Pats 4X4 off roading capability is up to Jeep standards and is limited by the drivers capability/expertise. See ya at the Head!

Awesome car! - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By ryanapem - September 9 - 10:33 amThis car has been wonderful! Ive owned it now for 6 months and put about 10,000 miles on it. Ive had no mechanical issues with it and it has performed better than expected. I consistently get 25.5 MPG in the city and 26.5 MPH highway. Ive never seen less than 24.5 MPH. It is comfortable, easy to reconfigure (fold seats and such), capable and cheap to own and operate. Ive got no real drawbacks to this car. It really has met and exceeded all my expectations.

Great Little 4x4 - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By Sara - September 6 - 8:03 amI brought the Patriot home about 2 weeks ago. Came off a Grand Cherokee and a Cherokee Sport before that. The ride is smooth and gas mileage has been what I hoped for so far 28-29 mpg with 5 speed manual transmission. Seems like it is going to be a great little 4x4. Jeep makes a solid product.

My first SUV - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By Erin - July 5 - 1:10 amThis is my first SUV and was kind of worried about the insurance and the gas, but after calling and found out that the insurance was half the price of my other car bad up for the 3mpg difference of what I was getting in my car. I drive 80 miles round trip to work and find it very comfortable. I bought this suv for myself, but my husband drives it more then me. I think it is time to buy him one now.

2008 Jeep Patriot - Fail! - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By disappointed71 - June 8 - 3:38 pmBought new in 2008. Within the first year, dome light would fill with water during a hard rain and would dump all over dash and me! Three years in, the lower ball joints/control arm had to be replaced with under 60,000 mi. Brakes and tires also had to be replace around the same time due to extra strain from the bad control arm. One year later, the ball joints are going bad again! Transmission is also acting up - anytime I travel on the highway for 2 hours or so, the transmission temperature light goes on and the car compensates by slowing me down to 45 mph, forcing me to pull over. Dealership says nothing is wrong with the tranny. I beg to differ!! Hate this car and will trade ASAP!!!

HIGHLY recommended!!! - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By Warren - May 21 - 11:23 pmA pleasure to own and drive. Appears well-built, have experienced no faults or issues and no minor irritations. I really like the CVT transmission but only with the autostick (manual override) which allows you to use the engine as a downhill brake and provides for smoother engine operation on a long uphill ride (plus a fun component if you are getting bored). Everything being considered, I cant think of a better vehicle.

loyal jeep owner - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By tracy - May 19 - 2:06 amI got my jeep in march 2008, and it is FWD 2.0. I love it and it is good on gas. I have to get used to the autostick, and I really dont use it. But overall I am a jeep fanatic and I really like the fuel efficiency.

Let me just tell you... - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By SJZ123 - May 12 - 10:06 amTraded in a 2000 Cherokee Sport for an 08 Patriot, was unsure if I wanted to but after test driving it a few times I had to have one. The MPG is great usually runs me about $28-$33 to fill up (lot better then my gas chugging Cherokee which averaged about $50+ a fill up. The Patriot is comfortable, fun to drive, very roomy, feels like a cross between the Cherokee and the Commander. The CVT You have to wait about 1,500 miles for the electronic transmission to dial in to get the correct gear ratios but once it does the performance picks up. Ive had mine for about 2 months now and have racked up about 3,500 miles already.

Overall very good, despite some problems - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By DR Wilson - May 11 - 8:53 amWe are very happy with our Patriot, overall. Have had a few problems, such as manual trans synchros (recall) as it was grinding while shifting gears. This was done before the first oil change- 2000 Miles! Otherwise, a great vehicle; great fuel economy, comfortable, peppy for a 2.4l. Also had check engine light on, dealer replaced the O2 sensor and has a rad leak when very cold; will take it in for a new rad next week. The windows are narrow, leaving for blind spots. Overall good quality for the price; small problems easily fixed under warranty. For the record, I am a Journeyman mechanic of 20+ years & a former automotive instructor at a technical school so my technical knowledge is strong.

Great SUV - 2008 Jeep Patriot
By KYPatriot - April 28 - 9:36 pmI bought my Patriot brand new in April 08 and I love it. Forget what professional reviewers say about it compared to the Escape, Rav4, etc., this is comfortable and handles great. Kentucky got hit with a terrible ice storm in early 09, and the Patriot acted like it barely noticed it! The biggest knock on it is the cheap interior materials, but seriously - how often do you touch your dashboard?
