This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

  • We loved it so much we bought another! - 2008 Jeep Patriot

My husband loved my 08 Patriot so much we traded his 96 RAV 4 for a base model 08 Patriot. You get so much for the money-considering we would have to pay almost $20K for a used something else that had 30-40K miles, we got him a brand new Patriot for under $18K. Friends of his thought the seats were leather (theyre vinyl), the ride is smooth, and he gets 28-29K on the highway. He still has the outside temp guage, low tire pressure sensor, and Lifetime Powertrain warrentee

We got the Patriot to replace a Honda Element. So far, we have mostly good things to say about it. Where we live, we routinely get heavy snows, and even with Freedom Drive I we have no problems. The upgraded sound is amazing, the sunroof is well worth the $800, and the YES! seats are perfect for our 10-month-old. Our big complaint is that theres not very much cargo space, especially with a baby in the back seat. I guess thats what you get with a small SUV, though. I also wish the liftgate lifted higher. Im 511 and I hit my head all the time. So far we get something in the 25-26 mpg range, but we drive up a 2000-foot hill once or twice a day, which kills the mpg. Overall were pleased.

My fiancee and I bought our Patriot in March of this year. We love the fact that it meets or exceeds the gas mileage on the window sticker every time. Another great aspect of the Patriot is the utility. The fold-flat passenger seat and the 115 watt inverter along with the Yes Essentials seats and rechargeable flashlight are priceless. We have a small family and a limited budget and couldnt have spent our money more wisely.

  • One Word - Excellent! - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I normally do not take the time to provide feedback, but feel obligated, given I often look at others opinions before buying. In short, this car is excellent! You cant go wrong. Ive owned it almost a year now. No problems whatsoever. Its fun to drive, responsive and intelligently designed. The on board computer display is a nice feature (forget what its called), as it not only gives you the outside temp, but warns you of such things as low tire pressure, etc. Im ave about 26 to 28 mpg.

  • Best SUV ever owned! - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I absolutely love this SUV. I drive around 100 miles a day to and from work ...and can not say enough about how smooth the ride is. I am not to high or to low to the ground. The 16 inch tires are wonderful. Love the room..the interior..the exterior. I can not think of one thing I would change. Does not feel top heavy. Accelerates with not hesitation. Quite engine...radio is excellent. The best purchase for your money. The YES interior is a mothers dream. I trade a Honda Accord for the Patriot and I was worried about the gas mileage...I was proven wrong. The Patriot gets around 28 miles per gallon. At night the halogen lights are wonderful...can not say enough! Truly a joy to drive.

Acceleration is gradual, but will be good enough for merging in the freeway. It handles like a car. The back pillar does create a blind spot, but the large side mirrors help slightly with the issue. Overall, I love driving my Patriot...maybe a little too much.

  • Good Deal For The Price - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I bought this car after many months considering the various options. I can truly say that for the money it has been a very good car. It serves its purpose very well for a couple. However, a family will find it tight to fit. My wife and I absolutely love this car. We have done 2 long trips with it and have been very pleased with the gas mileage, it has been exactly as described. It is my first Jeep and all I have to say is "Well Done Jeep".

I bought this to replace a Ford F150, and have NOT been disappointed. I average about 27 mpg with mixed driving out in the country. The acceleration is great, although not really outstanding, it is much more than I need. Overtaking is easy with the Patriot going from 45 to 75+ in almost a blink of an eye. The CVT really does a great job of giving the power when its needed. And though I dont have the Trail-Rated version, even during a major ice storm this past Winter, the Jeep handled inclines and roads that even pickups with off-road packages couldnt handle. Its nimble, and very comfortable.

  • Great so far - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Purchased a new Jeep Patriot with all the bells and whistles for my wife. Its a nice ride around town and comfortable on long trips. The gas tank is small but the good gas mileage makes up for it. The price is so good I think Im going to get in for my son.

  • a predicatable 4 Cylinder Jeep - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Overall a very nice car. I enjoy driving it around places and it is very rugged. Gone over some medians in some midnight runs and it handles them like a jeep should. (haha) Gas mileage is around 19MPG for me in the city with the AC always on frozen. I really hate the small 13.5 gallon tank for gas, the Honda CRVs tank is 2 gallons bigger! The CVT makes some noise during hard acceleration but overall fairly quiet. The car pulls pretty well around 4K RPMs (torque curve). I dont drive like a grandma which could also point to the less than standard gas mileage.
