This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

  • Fuel - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I bought this vehicle for several reasons. Warranty, fuel economy, USA made, off road abbility, price. Im happy with everything so far except for fuel. the dealer blames it on winter and blended fuel. He said when we switch to summer blend it will get better. On the highway Im at 19.5 MPG all around about 18 I have 1000 miles on it is 3.5 weeks old. I owned a Chevy 4 door truck if the fuel does not improve I will be sorry. Everyone else says they are getting 25 MPG.( perhaps they are optimistic) I live in Wisconsin.

I owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 11 years and wanted another Jeep. Decided to try a bare bones model instead and couldnt be happier. Great car with all the reliability I have come to count on with a Jeep. Its tight handling and good fuel economy have made driving it a real pleasure. I love the "Old School" look of the front of the car. I affectionately refer to it as my " Jeep Light" all the things I have come to love about the Jeep brand, at a lower price tag.

  • Love it - highly recommended - 2008 Jeep Patriot

We needed a new vehicle that would accommodate our two growing children and something that had decent mileage for my 134 mile daily round trip work commute. Honda Fit and other like vehicles didnt offer free safety features such as side impact airbags and A/C were considered OPTIONAL. We were floored when we found the Jeep Patriot (base model.) It offered more room, the standard features that we needed, really good gas mileage, and a fun, TONKA toy kind of ride. On this last tank of gas we averaged 26.8 MPG! Being in the NOLA area, I also wanted something big enough to sleep in if we had to evacuate:) You get a heck of a lot of bang for your buck with a Jeep Patriot!

  • 1st Jeep and Loving It - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Loving this Jeep. Hard to find the negatives about it. For those who want more power and complain that its whimpy, go buy something bigger. Its that simple. But if you are looking for a smaller cheaper SUV and want to park in more places than bigger SUVs, then get this Jeep! I recommend this to anyone. Well, the limited version anyway.

  • Much More Than You Pay For - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I own a 2008 Patriot 4WD. It is not the trail-rated version, but has the CVT2. Since purchasing it, I have had it during two ice storms, one in early 2008, and the horrific one here in Kentucky in 2009. And during both storms, there was one constant: this Jeep just cant get stuck! No matter where I was driving, even without being the trail-rated version, it handled everything, including hills that full-sized trucks with off-road packages couldnt even come close to handling. The fuel economy is great, but its not sluggish. Acceleration is great, and the auto-stick is a lot of fun, and helps with city MPGs. The interior isnt luxurious, but its a great utility interior.

10,000 miles and still loving it, not the fastest but smooth to drive and built with quality. I like chicken. 5 spd manual had a little trouble grinding in 3rd gear but local chrysler/dodge/jeep dealer fixed it right up with a new blocker ring. Towed a 2500 or more load from Michigan to Texas in 2 days over foothills of mountains, no trouble at all and not equipped with tow package, however i do run synthetic. This car was perfect for me with the basic package because the vinyl is easy to clean and the removable rear cargo floor is easy to clean. I am very happy with my new Jeep and look forward to a long companionship. Purchased extended warranty- lifetime bumper to bumper good buy.

  • Overall one great car - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I purchased my sport 4wd in automatic in March of this year. First of all, I got this for $14,995 brand new (You cannot beat that deal for any 4wd); second, I am getting way better gas mileage than what it said on the sticker. I already put 8500+miles on this, and I truly average 28mpg combined. This is my first jeep and I am so impressed.

  • Bargain 4x4 - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

This is the cheapest 4x4 suv you can find. I got 24 mpg on the first tank. Lots of options and it still was cheap. I cant see myself in a RAV4 or CRV, but this one feels like a real truck.

  • The Cherokees Baby - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I enjoy driving my Patriot but the fuel economy is not exactly what the sticker promises. I drive 120 miles a day to and from work, all highway. My average MPG is 23, not the 27 or better. The armrest that the driver and passenger are to share could be larger. Overall, I like my Patriot. It reminds me of the Cherokee, just smaller. I will add my children ages 6 and 9 commonly refer to our new car as a "box on wheels". Unfortunately its too early to tell what problems will be in our future. Im hopeful that it will not follow the pattern of the last 3 Chrysler products I have purchased which at 80,000 miles needed a new transmissions. Overall I would recommend the Patriot. Happy Buying!!

  • Transmission - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

At 7500 miles vehicle began grinding going into 5th gear and occasionally popping out of gear. TSB states this is a known problem with synchronizers. Took to dealer and they ended up replacing transmission. Besides this very happy with vehicle. MPG is 31-32 on highway 27 around town. Ugly rims, I plan to replace when I need tires with aftermarket. Interior is cheap plastic that scratches easily but I knew this before buying. I got a nice 4wd SUV with 4WD and upgraded sound system and trailer prep package and engine block heater and 26E group for under 18k out the door so I am still happy with my purchase.
