This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

  • SUV that ACTUALLY performs off road - 2003 Jeep Liberty
    By -

One of the best SUVs Ive ever driven. It handles on road well and off road even better. With no after market parts Ive taken my Liberty far into the bushes and it handles mud pits with ease. When on pavement it drives nice, has good power and does everything an SUV should do on the road. Other SUV makers should take note. This is a true offroad vehicle unlike most SUVs in its class. If your a soccer mom Im sure it would fill your needs as well. Nothing is more fun than driving downtown with my Jeep Liberty covered from top to bottom in mud after mudding and seeing all the looks you get from "city drivers". I have absolutely pounded on this Jeep and havent had any breakdowns.

I have been very happy since buying my jeep liberty freedom edition. I wish that the cross bars on the roof rack came with the vehicle standard instead of an accessory. With the manual transmission, a drink in the front cup holder hits your hand on the 1st to 2nd gear shift. I dont like the auto door lock feature. These are the only things I could think of that could use attention, and it took a while to come up with them. I would definitely buy the liberty again.

It has been a really fun experience driving an SUV and I think that this is one of the best.

My Jeep did great for the first few years. Now it is in the shop more than out. The dealership started by replacing the crank sensor, and now they say they dont know, or there is nothing wrong. The poetic justice is that the mechanic finally got stuck himself in it and had to be towed. However, I still dont have my vehicle. It is my second Jeep, but I am disappointed now. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same. It started with downshifting at odd times and now just stalls out while driving. I only saw one review that said the same, but several that mention a hard shift, etc. I wonder if it is a factory defect.

No problems yet. Only concern is smallish cockpit area. Fuel economy is not great and the tank is so much smaller than my Grand Cherokee was I am at the gas Station too often.I was concerned with cargo space but it is actually larger than it looks. Exterior tire is attracting vandals (punctured tire cover in the first two weeks!). Lack of cross rails on the roof was suprising, just another way to get more money out of us!! Engine is a little loud but at least it sounds good.

I cant believe my jeep has 180K and still runs like new. I have not had one single mechanical issue with it. Oil changes faithfully every 5K, occasional engine tune up and some new brakes 50K back is all Ive ever done for maintenance. Am I just lucky or is this actually a decently made US vehicle?

For those of you out there the News 2003 Jeep Liberty is a great new vehicle. With a choice of two four-wheel drive systems. Three different modles, Sport, Limited and the awsome Renegade. All with excellent off road capabilities. As well as off road, on road driving is superb, with a smoother ride than cherokee, and larger interior space for that added head and leg room. The 2003 Liberty is a jeep for all.

The Jeep handles Great. It drives like a breeze on the highway, but is not great for city driving. Poor gas mileage. BUT I STILL Love this JEEP.

  • Love my Liberty - 2003 Jeep Liberty

This is a great vehicle! Yes, the gas mileage could be better but every other aspect of this Jeep is a delight. The build quality is outstanding; not a single problem since I bought it last October. Its fun to drive and I find its handling better than what the reviews seem to indicate. Handling is tight and solid...Consider this vehicle if youre looking for a well-built, fun to drive, and capable off-road SUV.
