This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2003 Jeep Liberty, a new overhead console, based on that of the Grand Cherokee, includes a unique interface that allows passengers to program the operation of nine convenience and safety items to their own preference. Liberty owners can now personalize several features, including which doors unlock with the first press of the remote keyless entry unlock button, the miles driven between service intervals and the amount of time the headlamps remain on when exiting the vehicle. Finally, an available six-disc in-dash CD player replaces the cargo area mounted unit. Standard four-wheel disc brakes endow the Jeep with improved brake feel on-road, decreased stopping distances and reduced brake fade. Available electrochromic interior and driver-side rearview mirrors help reduce headlight glare from traffic at night, and standard sliding sun visors have been added, which serve to keep the sun out of your eyes by providing added windshield and side glass coverage.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" as most of its competitors.

My jeep is about the sharpest, "funnest" vehicle Ive ever owned! Its the perfect car. Mine came with an off-road package and I fell in love with it immediately. I had been looking for weeks at different SUVs, and this was a show stopper. I always get stares while Im driving! Its super during the winter, I never had a problem in our snowy (Ohio) roads last year. Ive had the car for 10 months and have had no mechanical problems or otherwise.

  • 10k in 6 months and still amazed! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I bought my Liberty in the beginning of January, so far I have put 10,000 miles on it. I upgraded from a Geo Tracker, and Ill tell you what...Jeep are spectacular. The only issue Ive had in 10,000m miles is that I had to replace the right rear brake caliper. The room inside is amazing. I am 62 and there is probably another 5 of room between my head and the roof. The only quirky thing about the liberty is the power winder controls for the front and rear passengers are all located on the center console. Its awkward but Ive grown to love it.

i traded my 01 monte carlo for this jeep, i feel like i made the right decision, the jeep only gets abt 4mpg less thn the monte did, wich was around 27. its a nice car with tan and black 2-toned leather interior. i have alot mre passenger room, but the cargo area isnt as big, my jeep has just about every option, im satisfied with my choice to get it, it looks good on the otside, and is fully functional on the inside. the one thing i have to complain about is the window controls, they are in a very akward place. the car handles very well in rain, the only thing i miss about my car is that i dnt have to slow down quite as much to make a turn, in the jeep it almost feel like ill tip over haha!

  • Fun to Drive! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I love this car. Its peppy and fun to drive. Its good looking in and out. I have always had confidence in its performance when I took it out. It does not ride like a luxury car, but like the little SUV it is supposed to be. I would highly recommend it for the young and the young-at-heart.

Liberty has got to be the worst riding vehicle I have ever owned. DEaler replaced front &rear springs & shocks after 8 months. Gas mileage sucked never got better then 16 mpg hwy. Had a fulsize extended cab 4x4 V8 that got 21 to 23 should have kept it.

  • My first new vehicle - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I have been driving my 2003 liberty since June 2003. The dealer ripped me off unfortunately but the liberty is great. I owned a Wrangler before this for 2 years and yes i miss having the top & doors off. But the Liberty gives the comfort and handling that i wasnt used too. I am already considering buying a 2004 at a much better deal i was given for this one.

It is a great vehicle that needs just a few changes, see below, that would cost very little, but make the vehicle a 10 rating across the board except for the poor gas mileage.

Just the best car I had. Im European and I drove many kind of cars from Europe and also here in the US. It is just the best car Ive ever drive. Its comfortable, powerful and Fun. We are a family with one baby, its just the perfect car with the right amount of space. The consumption is good for the category (24mpg). Im in heaven when I go Off-Road. The car has the best attitude. Another thing, No Noise and every single detail is tough. Incredible!

  • Fun with Liberty - 2003 Jeep Liberty

This SUV is really lots of fun to drive. Good visibility and an amazing turning radius. The seats feel hard at first, but offers good support. Lots of cargo room. What happened to the cross bars on the roof rails? My Jeep Grand Cherokee has them. The Liberty is a civilized Wrangler in many ways. It feels like a junior verson of the Grand Cherokee Laredo. Many similar controls.

  • I love my Jeep ! - 2003 Jeep Liberty

I needed a vehicle to pull a small travel trailer and get me to my favorite places for fishing and skiing. I compared them all and test drove many in the small SUV category. The Jeep Liberty is a winner.. of-road it is amazing considering the other creature comforts. For the price best vehicle in its class. Build quality is excellent. Way to go Daimler Chrysler.
