Overview & Reviews
This year Hyundai adds a GLS version of the five-door hatchback to the Elantra line.
- Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, long list of standard features, comfortable interior, ultralow price tag, generous warranty.
- Floaty ride on the freeway with base suspension, hard to find equipped with ABS, poor offset crash test score.

Little Reliable - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By playmaker - October 25 - 1:44 pmThis car has been awesome to own. But with just over 100k miles now close to 200k and still going strong. Does surprisingly well in snow and is an excellent commuter. Easy to maintain and no hassles.

A no frills car - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By Vinod - October 17 - 2:00 amBought this amidst much warning from all friends and ignorant people who tend to be scared about buying anything other than a Toyota or a Honda from the used cars. Reason why I bought this was how Elantras offered the same features and higher power than a corolla or a civic at a much lower price. After having driven this for more than 16,000 miles, I am very pleased with this car. I have not had any bad experiences and the maintenance has only been preventive maintenance like transmission oil change, brake rotor change etc.

Great for high mileage drivers - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By Renee - May 25 - 6:56 pmI bought this car "new" (it was a demo car with 160,00 KM on it) in 2005. Currently, its traveled 300,000 KM (just over 200,000 miles) with only maintenance service so far. I had to service the clutch at 250,000 km - and have had the breaks done 2x (unfortunately full replacement due to the salted roads in Canada). As far as reliability goes its been an awesome car for me, though its not luxurious, it does get the job done!

Excellent Warranty - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By Yoga - March 31 - 11:37 pmThe car is solidly built. I moved around a lot and the car still stand up well after 5 years. The warranty is great. They found problems with the CV boots, cylinders, and all 4 shocks, they replace them all for free! This car is going to last a few more years!

Good buy for the money and reliability - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By LJ - October 29 - 6:33 amThis is my second Elantra, both 5spd manual, the 04 model got all the newer details just right,i.e., dash construct, console style, and AC features. Very happy with the overall car and drive experience, fits long and short trip needs. Roadside assistance has also been a very nice feature when keys get locked in by mistake. Power feels good and is responsive, but I miss the gas mileage I used to get with my Toyotas. Cant see why I cant get that yet with these cars... So, overall scale of 1-10, 8

bought for college - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By polystang - August 19 - 10:30 pmBought for my final year at school. So far I am very satisfied. The engine is quite powerful for its class and its handles well. The sound system is nothing to brag about but all in all it is a very good little car at a good price. Recommended to anyone also, Im a big guy. 6,2 and build. I fit in it very well. Good head room and decent legroom

Decent little car - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By decent car - August 10 - 3:17 amI purchased my Elantra new in Nov of 05. I needed a new car after the electrical system in my 99 Jetta stopped working(very pricey repair) I have had absolutely 0 problems with this car. I have performed routine maintenance on the car, oil changes etc. New tires at 60,000 miles. I have been impressed with the peppy engine and love the gas mileage, I average 36 to 38mpg highway. I commute a lot to work and school. I do not like the fact the engine revs at higher rpms when shifting gears with the 5 speed manual transmission. Sheetmetal dents easily and paint has worn off the hubcaps. Interior has held up nicely, had to install new radio and upgraded the speakers. Wish I had the sunroof

Maybe a Glitch? - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By John H - July 31 - 5:00 pmWe bought the Elantra used with about 22,000 in the summer of 06 - it had previous been a rental car (Hertz?. The cars has performed flawlessly until it blew a head gasket at 68,340 miles. Since I was the second owner - the warranty expired at 60,000 miles. I asked Hyundai America to at least partially compensate me for the repair since I think it was a fluke and they just blew me off. Perhaps it was the last one off the assembly in on a Friday afternoon. The gas mileage has always been a bit lower than I expected - less than bothe the Corollas and Civics that I have owned. I am guardedly optimistic about the car since everyone else that has them say they are great.

A Pretty Good Experience - 2005 Hyundai Elantra
By grapemanca - June 17 - 11:40 pmWeve had our 05 Elantra for 4 years, and weve been pretty pleased. After testing many other cars in its class, we were happy to purchase the Elantra. It has a quieter and smoother ride than the 05 Corolla, and more power than a 05 Civic. Its nice and wide inside, with good head room. After 4 years its still solid and tight.
